Good afternoon all!

New to the site so just feeling my way around.

I just wanted some honest opinions and thoughts regarding the Nike Covert Irons. I am a 23 handicap and have been playing golf for the best part of 8 months now so I am slowly but surely lowering my handicap as i go along.

I currently play the Nike Slighshot Irons + hybrids. I thought i'd get myself this set after above average reviews as they were a set aimed at the high handicapper. I have had no issues with them and enjoy using them every time i am out on the course however I am at a stage where i feel the need to get a new set of irons and the ones i have been looking at are the new Nike Covert Irons. I have read reviews high and low on the net and they say they are probably one of the most forgiving iron sets around. They also state that they are game improvement irons...So i have been thinking, would upgrading (if you could call it that) from the slingshots to the coverts be a good move?

I feel pretty good with the slingshots however i really want to try and take the next step forward in improving my The saying "if it aint broke don't fix it" really springs to mind hence why i am slightly reluctant to make the change. I would really appreciate some honest advice and feedback as I can't really seem to make a decision on what to do.

Help guys!

p.s. I definitely consider myself as being heavily biased towards nike hence why i have not mentioned any other makes or models

You sound like you've already made up your mind, but I would be surprised if your current irons are holding you back. If your loaded though you can't beat the feeling new shineys give. Personally I'm a bit sadistic and bought clubs I wasn't really good enough for at the time, after months of struggling it forced me to improve my swing and ball striking. Now I love them but i wasn't playing in comps at the time and only embarrassing myself.

Stick with the Slingshots. I used to have the old HL model and they were good clubs. If you're playing well with them and improving there is no reason to change.

If you're determined to buy new sticks at some point down the line, you must must must try them out first.

I'd stick with them for now if I was you. If you feel you are improving then set yourself a goal. Tell yourself that if you get down to 15 or something then you will trat yourself to a new set to help get to the next goal.

I thought about about upgrading my nikes to the pro-comdo set but have decided that I want to hit single figures first then I'll get them to take me down to cat 1.

Hopefully setting a goal will spur you on aswell although I've had a slow start to the season and need to get the finger out or there will be no new shineys for me this year either :-)

I'd be tempted to say stick with the current irons and spend a bit of cash on lessons. You'll see bigger improvements doing that

Where did you get those ugly sticks from? :p
More importantly, what are they being replaced with?

I've taken a punt on a set of Adams A12 pro's on here from NWJocko, spotted them in DG in Huddersfield and liked the look, low and behold that night a second hand set appeared. Has a KBS shaft which im unconvinced of but still have the PX 5.5 which I like so can switch if need be.

How you getting on with Bridgestones? In fact how r u getting on stranger?

A12s are lovely clubs. Was tempted by them when they first came out. Long ago I had A2 Techs and they were brilliant.
I'm with you on the KBS thing mate, not too sure about them myself. Is the hosel bore the same as Adams tend to be a bot odd with the sizings.

Bridgestones are good, in fact they are very good it's actually swaying me from the 53s. I am going to keep both going though as they are so similar it's quite fun to have a change if one set slightly misbehaves.

I'm doing alright thanks, the new job means I'm not around as much as away from the house longer and with the lighter nights and "improved" weather the wife has all manner of jobs around the garden needing done. Hows things with the new club/course going?

Still at the same gaff mate, course looks ok all weathers considering, first deal this sat so looking forward to my first cut (trying stay positive ;) )

Had check on the A12's before, takes a .355 taper shaft apparently.

Thought you had moved club for some reason. Excellent on the hosel size, always wary of Adams as most of their drivers take .350 rather than more common .335 but who knows the KBS might work :)
Looking at organising a day at Muckhart on 6th May if you are up for it. Will PM you rather than pollute the thread

Thanks for the advice guys, really appreciate it! Getting mixed feelings from you all! I think the best solution right now is what Hendo007 says. They are doing well for me at the moment so I think i'll stick with them to try and lower my handicap as much as possible. I'll set myself a target and once I achieve that I can treat myself to a better set!

HomerJSimpson - I live down here in Gibraltar so I play most of my golf up the Costa Del Sol. My local club is the San Roque Golf Club. They have 2 courses there (Old & New) and they are in tip top condition. Tough little courses too!
