Obviously I have built up 1200 odd posts over two years just to sell you lot golf insurance, so no having a pop at me for spamming.

But,

Any one insured?

Got the latest GM, and I don't normally read the flyers that fall out on the lounge carpet, but I am at work, and have broken my habit.
Two companies leaflets, one is golf care, annual cover reduced from £29.99to £22.49 for £1250 (seems a bit light) worth of cover, and the other E and L insurance, £27 for £2000 cover etc. Figures for other cover like medical and 3rd party are similar, except that one charges an extra £10 for cover abroad, and one lets you go for 60 days.

Any one use these, or can recommend a better one? I am not sure what my household policy covers, and kind of figure that a golf exclusive one might be a good idea any way. Especially once my new shiny very nickable clubs arrive.

I'm seriously considering insurance after I (accidentally!!) hit someone on the course a few weeks back.

In my defense, he was 30 yards behind me and to my left when I struck a beautiful hybrid 4 from the left hand rough which then ricocheted off a tiny sapling straight back at me and hit the poor guy on the leg whilst he was minding his own business in the practice ground.
After offering my profuse apologies, I spent the rest of the round contemplating the worst case scenario if I had seriously injured him.

Also, after reading a few recent threads in the forum about stuff getting nicked I went through the sobering exercise of counting up the replacement cost if someone were to nick my bag and it's contents. A lotta dough!

I've discussed this with a few guys I know and everyone seems to be "thinking about it" I'm pretty sure that won't be a great comfort if it all goes "breast ascending" one day.

I'm deffo going to take insurance out so I await the comments in this thread with a great deal of interest.

Thanks Craig, I have just taken some out with E&L with 4 years new for old and on a monthly DD, its rolling so not a fixed annual contract so if anything happens I know I am covered. Not bad for a fiver a month.

Parmo, can you elaborate on why you went for the most expensive option?
4 years new for old is a good deal, but I don't normally keep my kit much longer than this.
I have added up the cost of my bag, and with some pretty top end stuff in it it comes to £1870 approx, so their £2.70 deal looks ok to me.

Because of the higher Temporary Disablement & 4 years new for old, you never know and for a couple of quid a month, but looking back the basic one would do the job.

EDIT: I have double checked the options and gone for the birdie as I only have about a grands work of gear and will be looking to replace my irons in the next two years, so it makes sense.

I've been reading up on this a bit today and I've noted a few things to be aware of.

All the policies i've looked at only cover you for theft if there are visible signs of violent or forced entry. i.e if you leave your clubs in the locker room but don't lock them away in a locker ( because you don't have one) then unless someone kicks in the locker room door you ain't covered. Exactly the scenario encountered by a forumer this week.

Presumably the same applies on the course - if you leave your bag unattended whilst in the trees / on the green / looking for your ball and someone nicks it - not covered. Some chav with a blade jumps out of a bush ,threatens you , nicks your clubs. Not covered.

Also, if your clubs get nicked from your car they have to be in the boot and concealed from sight by the parcel shelf or other manufacturer fitted cover. I drive a 7 seater Ford Galaxy with the back row of seats removed to give me a big boot...... but no parcel self or cover was fitted when they made the car. Guess what? - Not covered.

Break into your car after 7 pm and steal your clubs? Not in a locked Garage? Not covered.

Clubs stored in a locked garage / shed outhouse but not in the car? Not covered.

I'm still going to get insurance but will make myself fully aware of the exclusions etc. before picking the right one.

It's going to be more about the liability aspect of damaging people / property rather than the cover for my gear.

This is one of the main reasons I have taken it out, any way ward shot leaves me filling my under crackers at the thought of losing everything and hurting someone in the process. My clubs are never more than a few feet away and I don't leave them unattended (with the odd exception of popping into the club house to buy a pint) and since I don't drive and get taxi's back and forth I don't think being stolen from the back of a moving taxi is much of a problem (touch wood).

I had golf insurance, when my clubs got nicked they asked for my house insurance detals so they could claim it off them!!! I ended up going direct through the house insurance and saved £50 off the excess too.

A waste of money then in my eyes, I have liability cover and thats it now.

I've used this company for last 10 years or so. I had a bad experience with Golfplan in the mid 90s so looked for someone who treated their customers a bit better.

Been happy with service this co provides.

I keep all my receipts for clubs, waterproofs, bags etc in with my policy docs so that Iknow where everything is if needed. Might even be really sad and take some pics of the clubs as well.

I have E & L, got it within two weeks of starting playing again, mainly for third party injuries/damage. Too many unscupurlous toerags out there would take you to the cleaners for an errant shot.
I took photo's of my clubs and keep receipts. Would cost 2 grand to replace.

This could be a good topic for GM (or Which?).
Just what insurance cover should you be getting - theft protection, but as craig has pointed out the policy ain't worth the cost of printing it.
(Mine are on my contents insurance as sporting equipment (note to self must check how much).
That only really leaves third party (and hole in one?) - don't think the house/contents will cover this but can you get this separately for less?

My clubs tend to live in the boot of my car. I don't mind if they are uninsured at home, but do care about golf club car parks, as I have friends who have been done. I don't leave them lying around unattended either in the locker room or patio.

3rd party insurance would be useful, but not so much the hole in one, comp fees, membership fees etc.

I don't like the idea of seperate golf club insurance if they are just going to try to reclaim it off my household policy. The whole point is to not annoy my home insurers and drive up the premiums.

I guess I need to read all the small print.

I was so annoyed by this to be honest when it happened to me. I was disgusted and told them to poke their policy. They were charging a £100 excess and were going to just claim it back through my house insurance who would only charge £50 excess.

What is the point of paying for this equipment cover when this is all they do??? It seems to be the case with a lot of golf insurance products tbh.

Have to say I'm in a relatively lucky position. I have golf insurance (through AG but lets not go there - whole new thread needed for that one on their exclusion clauses - will be changing but mainly for personal liability cover) but I also have a locker at my club. As a result as soon as I'm finished the clubs go straight into the locker. If I have been playing in the wet they then come home to be dried.

We are currently a one car family at present too so the wife takes me up there so she can use it while I'm playing. She then picks me up and so the clubs go straigth in the car and then home. The point being that apart from when I leave them at the practice ground to walk up and collect the balls I've hit where potentially they could be stolen mine are fairly well protected.

Although I consider glof inurance a waste of money as there are so many get out clauses for the insurer & i don't know one person that has actually been held liable in this country for an injury to someone else. Not to mention a court in the far east set a pesident by throwing out a case against a golfer causing an injury to someone else not long ago, thing is I actually have golf insurance from a firm that provides me with so many other valuble fringe benifits like green free vouchers etc that Its too good an offer to turn down.
