Golf in the Olympics till 2024

Despite the quality of the commentators looks like Golf was a hit with the Olympic powers that be. The Guardian says so so it must be true I reckon it had to be down to the last day that was quite tense... Good news though.. But I still think it should be down to Amateurs to compete not Pros.

I think it's a good thing. Like most sports that are new (and taking the stance that it's new given the huge length of time since the last time it was in the olympics) it needs to find its place and its own way of doing things. I hope for starters they find a commentary team that know what is going on and a camera crew that can follow the action.

Said before as Japan's already a big golf country they'll have the golf event looking perfect in 2020 in terms of setting and with perfect camera work. Format might be better like the WGC matchplay - round robin then into knockout. Matchplay allows for more aggressive attacking golf.

Agree that matchplay should be the format to be used but did hear a rumour that the players didn't like that fact they travelled all that way with the possibility just for one game then Home again - so just like a lot of the other sports

Good news if it happens and should go on from there providing they stay away from the match-play format (just 2-4 players on the entire course televised round the globe with one stuffing his tee shot into the water on the 15th is no way to decide a gold medal)

minimum of 3 matches each with that format, that's what I meant.

No one has the right to automatically defend their Olympic title. They have to be picked by their own Olympic Association each time.
