I am currently in The Azores with my golf society ( Domino Intercontinental Society ) (DICS )
For 5 days of golf and 1 day of big game fishing.
We are on the main island of San Miguel which has 2 courses, Batalha and Furnas
Batalha which we played yesterday has 3 nine hole courses and Furnas is a normal 18 holer
However, one course is head and shoulders above the other and it is all due to the availability of water.
Batalha is on the lower slopes on the west part of the island, it has been a dry summer and their water reservoir has run dry, the fairways are scabby and the greens and tee boxes are really suffering.
Meanwhile at Furnas, they are much higher up and on the east side and have had plenty of rain, they also have several pools / reservoirs which are full,
They water the greens and tee boxes and the fairways seem to be doing fine , it’s lush , green and beautiful
We were due to play Batalha 3 times and Furnas twice, but we have swapped it around, so playing Batalha tomorrow and Furnas Thursday and Friday.
The island is beautiful and the food is incredibly cheap and amazing quality
Looking forward to the next few days
