Planning to stay for 3-4 nights and play 2-3 rounds, seems so much to choose from any recommendations on where to stay and play , ideally dont want to travel to from where we stay, just want a couple of nice courses..

Base yourself in Vilamoura, and then play and of the Oceanica Courses -

The Old Course is brilliant, Victoria, very modern but also great.

Alternatively, play the Quinta Do Lago courses - all 3 (South, North & Laranjal) are great, and they offer free transfers to and from the course (its only 15mins anyway).

Am staying at Amendoeira for 4 nights in September, with unlimited golf, buggies and airport transfer thrown in - two Oceanica courses (Faldo & Christy O'connor Jnr). Have read and heard many views, some good, some not so, but I think we'll enjoy ourselves anyways.

Pestana golf, my FIL used to have a villa on the complex, 2 courses with links to more. everything on site from restaurant to supermarket, lots of villas to rent, many with their own buggies.

When my lottery numbers come up, i am buying a villa there.

I've just booked a trip through this company online for booking the golf and the guy who runs it couldn't of been more helpful if he tried. His company is called Algarve Sports and it's a newish business. He's only doing the Algarve at the minute but it's definitely worth a look if your planning on going. He's a retired Rugby player and loves his golf.

His website will be up and running in the next couple of weeks but here's his contact details for anybody interested.

I stayed there in May, really enjoyed it. If you have games booked in the morning there is a chance of a 2nd round that day but it isn't easy to get "unlimited golf" otherwise. We went from Thursday to Sunday but were advised that Sunday to Wednesday is better.

Do you actually think talking about yourself in third person makes your shameless self-plug any less obvious?

I have never met this guy or have ever dealt with him until somebody mentioned his site to me the other day and I swear that on my kids lives. I have nothing to gain by putting his info up and I genuinely put that up to help other golfers who maybe thinking about booking to go there. I booked accommodation and flights separately and was struggling to get tee times at a good price.

I'm new to forums and thought that they were here to help people. I will gladly take the post down if it offends anybody and was genuinely trying to help.

So let me help you: your post matches all, and I mean ALL, criteria that typically identify the kind of spam PR agents and business owners tend to post online.

First post of a new member? - check
'Personal recommendation' coverstory ("I just used xx and it was totally amazeballz!!11!!") - check
Information a PR agent but probably not a customer would give (He's a retired Rugby player and loves his golf.) - check
Full contact details like in an ad - check
Bonus: Official flyer attached as well.

So while this could be a legit attempt to help other golfers, I would be lying if I said I do not highly doubt it.

Doesn't offend me. We're looking for somewhere and are quite happy to consider anyone if the price is right - not fussed where the info comes from.

Agree with TerryA, P da F is a great course but you'll probably need a buggy. The 80 yard par 3 is quitr a challenge! Also think about Espiche further inland.

Stayed in albuferia in April and played the Royal and Ocean courses. They were nice but did not blow me away. Stumbled across the Faldo and Oconner courses and they were gorgeous. totally agree with the old course as well. it does look nice. Staying in Vilamora next April and will look at the old course And possibly the Faldo course. But will need to drive to that one. Not a prob as Al have the car for a week.
