I am on holiday in Teneriffe in September, I am sure to be well bored with just sitting about by mid-week & I wondered about being able to play golf.

I looked on a few web sites at courses, but the green fees were very steep 60 odd Euros.
I would also need to hire clubs.

Does anyone know if it's possible to play in Teneriffe & hire clubs at a reasonable cost?
Also the same question applies for Lanzarote, as I am going there in November.

Thanks for any info.

Email a few of the courses and ask what deals / packages they can sort for you. We played in Fuerteventura and got a better price than was advertised with club higher too.

Don't have so many holidays and play more golf at home.

It is expensive as anything. We were about 110 euros for a round, caddie cart hire, club hire which were cheap rubbish and 2 course meal which was really just a few bits of salad and handfull of pasta if lucky. Was ment to be the best course in Tenerife but tbh its was in a bad state and defo not even worth 15/20 euros never mind what we paid.

Golf in Tenerife has become expensive. We used to go there every year but now go to Florida as it is a lot cheaper.
As said, Adeje is a favourite and Abama is the best but extremely expensive and difficult. Las Americas is another good course on the south of the island, but I would definately advise you to stay clear of Golf del Sur unless you enjoy plane spotting. One other course is Buenavista, designed by Seve Balasteros, but is a long way from anywhere.
By far my favourite course is Tecina on the island of La Gomera situated to the south of Tenerife. You can get the ferry and a taxi to this woderful course.

8 of us going out in middle of September, will be playing Los Americas,Adeje & Tecina on the island. This will be our 5th Year and have found that the deals now are better than when we first went. For around 65 Euro you get your golf, buggy and lunch thrown in which is very good i would have thought, its only the exchange rate that has made it more expensive. Also the deal you get to stay and play on La Gomera (Tecina) is very good.

I took my own clubs to costa adeje, wonderful course. Loved the little 9 holer too with its par 3 off a cliff!

What a fascinating hole, pretty sure it's further in the vertical direction, than the horizontal direction.

When I played it, I left an almighty pitchmark on the green too!

Stayed in the hotel adjacant to Golf Las Americas 2 years ago. Got a 3 x round package which was pretty reasonable considering the standard of course. I didnt mind teh repetition of 3 same rounds in a fortnight as I didnt have a car to travel & we took teh mother-in-law with us......so time on teh course was required ;)

Played a round with an Iclandic boy who rented clubs there - nice Cobras !

Who you travelling with ? Thomas Cook were only £20 for clubs.

Las Americas is a very good course although I am actually banned for life from there. But that's another story.....

Dude, you cant leave us hanging. That sounds like a hell of a story, which I suspect will brighten up my Friday mornin

It's a classic tale of golf, fine wine, women and nudity.

Come on, spill the beans then.

It sounds like he did if he's been banned for life.
Possibly in a bunker around the 18th????
;) ;) ;)

There was no spilling of beans around the 18th.

There are two parts of the story which led to the ban.

The first part was some years ago when I was young and foolish and on holiday with a good friend in Tenerife.

It involved seven days of very competitive golf between me and my mate who were all square for the week stood on the 18th tee on the sixth round.

To set the scene a little. The 18th is a challenging par 5 with water down a good portion of the right hand of the hole.

To the left as you approach the green is a rather splendid clubhouse.

I was just short of the green in three and my mate is 120 yards out, right in the middle of the fairway in two. He's not very good at judging distances and being a sporting man, I'd been helping him all week.

So, he turns to me and says "What do you reckon?".

At which point an evil, but uncontrollable, urge takes hold of me: "4 iron. It's quite a bit further than you think."

"OK".

A couple of solid looking practice swings later, with a 4 iron and an opponent who trying his utmost not to cry with laughter, he takes aim and pulls the trigger.

Pull being the operative word. He strikes the ball beautifully but it's heading way way left and considerably further than he expected.

I am helpless at this point.

Until we realise that the additional 5 clubs he's taken, combined with the great strike and massive pull, mean that the ball's heading towards the clubhouse.

Not just towards the clubhouse, but towards the first floor balcony that extends most of the width of the building.

"FORE!" we shout, as one.

Sadly, although someone almost hit the deck on the adjacent hole - such was the ferocity of the shout, those poor individuals on the balcony enjoying a delicious lunch didn't think the shout could possibly be for them.

How very wrong they were.

Cue mayhem.

The ball enters the balcony lands on the marble floor and starts to bounce.

I am not laughing now.

You can see people diving for cover as this ball progresses along the balcony bouncing off the beautifully tiled floor onto the ceiling again and again.

You can hear the glasses and crockery smashing as the ball's passage continues causing carnage as it goes.

Fortunately, no-one was injured, the staff were very good about my friend's poor club selection and I won the hole and the round as my mate was in pieces after that shot - I did give him a mulligan for that 4 iron..

But that wasn't the reason I'm banned for life. Although I like to think that this incident contributed significantly to the ban.

The actual event that caused the ban happened that afternoon after the seventh and final round.....
