Hi guys,

Looking for a bit of advice. I am on a training course at the beginning of May and on the final day we finish at 3 so i was thinking of getting a round in on the way home to West Yorkshire. I know that Forest Of Arden and The Belfry are options but wondering what other courses people would recommend.

Thanks in advance.

Where abouts is your training course?

Anyway, apart from the two big boys that you have mentioned, if your after a fairly affordable round then look no further than the potentially the best municipal in the country, Lickey Hills. Situated in the middle of the Lickey Hills and surrounded by pine trees makes this course on a nice day, golfing paradise. On the 3rd if you look to your right you have the city skyline of Birmingham which is about 25minutes away in the car! ATM, the course is stil closed because of snow, but hopefully by the time it comes to your round, we will have some much better weather!

Enjoy!

Last year I had a Gold my time card that allowed me to play any of there courses and Lickey Hills was one I didn't play, I regret it now though.

PGA at the Belfry would be a great choice

Close to M42 :-

Jct 3 Kings Norton 27 holes so rarely crowded
Jct 4 Shirley Bit quirky but generally in good nick
Jct 5 Copt Heath or Olton Both really good members' courses and well worth a visit
Jct 6 Forest of Arden Like The Belfry you are already aware of what is on offer
Jct 9 The Belfry

None of these are more than 5 minutes from the Motorway.

Depending on your route home you might also want to consider Beau Desert near Stafford or some of the Notts courses, Hollinwell or Sherwood Forest. Should be light till 9ish by then so you can afford a couple of hours drive to get there.

Certainly wouldn't recommend Worcester to West Yorkshire via Beau Desert but Notts courses, including Coxmoor, a good shout Hollinwell, Coxmoor or Lindrick would not require major detour from M1.

I think the closer it is to Worcester the better. It reduces the chance that traffic would scupper my plans. It always seems like people like to crash on a Friday afternoon.

What about Boughton Park (Worcester Golf&Country Club) beautiful course and clubhouse. The Worcestershire in Malvern is a good knock. Ladbrook Park is a very nice golf club and just south of Birmingham. There are many more like Cleobury Mortimer, Little Lakes, Enville.

If you use your EGU members card you can get some good green fee discounts.

I can also recommend the Lickey Hills (municipal), or my local, North Worcestershire (private), both close to the M5/M42. Even closer is Bromsgrove, a decent pay & play. Let me know if you fancy a game.

It's slightly the wrong way for you but Broadway is a great course!

others I have played in and around Worcester that I have enjoyed are;

Kidderminster Golf Club
Cleobury Mortimer
Gay Hill
Bromsgrove
Sapey
Ombersley

if you just want a quick thrash round if the meeting over runs or the weather is looking a bit dodgy, check out Nailcote Hall at Balsall Common. It hosts the British Par 3 Championship every year, only 9 pretty evil holes, if your short game needs sharpening this will point you in the right direction if not cure you.
Always kept in very good condition, not as grand as the 2 in the OP but, worth keeping on file.

One nice little course near to the Belfry is Drayton Manor (Tamworth) - it's a James Braid course, not overly long but interesting mix of holes and I don't think it's too expensive.
I've played a couple of times, it's quite tree lined, a few water hazards - only real downside is that you can hear Drayton Manor when you are playing, can get a little off putting when you are teeing off to hear people screaming whilst on the rides.

I will be on the training course for 2 weeks from the 22nd of April so I could fit in a twilight round during the week if you would be up for it.

I think I will be squeezing in a couple of twilight rounds during the week.

I live in Droitwich (Worcester is 5mins from me) and from what you have said you need to get on a course near your course!! so that you can get as much time as possible in. That being said I would recommend the following:-

1. Gaudet Luce - This is my home course. The course is in fairly good nick and the greens are quite good and quick. Fairly easy course.
2. Bromsgrove - Nice course and fairly challenging with a good twilight rate of £8.50, cant remember which time this is from though
3. The Vale, Evesham - Championship course and quite long. Good test.
4. Bewdley Pines - Nice course and a very tight outward nine. Currently there is a Groupon for 18 Holes, two people and a sandwich £20!

IMO - Lickey Hills is not the best, The Belfry and Forest of Arden are overated.

Hope this helps chap.

I played Stoneleigh Deer Park yesterday, nice open course with a lot of ancient trees, if you like that sort of thing (I do).

A hilly start and unusual spread of holes; 3, 4, 5 and 7 are par 5s with a 235 yard par 3 breaking them up. Par of 38 out, 33 in.

I enjoyed it.
