I enjoy reading the posts from the Scottish golfers. Born in Glasgow , now 52 years old, once played off 3 handicap and I've played golf in Scotland ONCE in my life , at a course near Irvine. All this talk about Kingsbarns etc! Years ago an Englishman told me that Dornoch was the best course he'd ever played. Must get back one day!

Hi Shanker

I'm not Scottish but Scotland is my favourite place to play golf because there's a massive selection of courses and everyone is so friendly and laid back, plus it doesn't have to cost a fortune to play a decent track.

Belgie - surprised you haven't considered swapping your £150 season ticket for 6 courses for 9 holes on Wentworth's West course which is what you'd get for the same money.

Living in the south-east is a real bummer when it comes to golfing costs. Okay they're not all quite that much, but my home club is now £1000+ which hurts every January.

Am trying to persuade the wife that a family move to Scotland is a good idea but need to come up with some other reason than that the golf is dirt cheap. Any ideas??

Wheel clamping is illegal in Scotland; you have a better state education system; free healthcare when you get old: roads much quieter making driving pleasant: property prices cheaper: climate much better that widely believed - e.g. Moray Firth has same climate as Lincolnshire. As a Scot you are less hated abroad. Beer is much better up here -proper 80 schilling like Caledonian 80 or Deuchars IPA , not warm Tetley dishwater. Where I stay 1 in 4 of the populace are English incomers so you will 'fit in' just fine. I have 2 golf memberships, 18 holer is £200/yr and 9 holer 48/yr, both far too expensive in my opinion. Cleaner air, deserted beaches and mountains for the kids.
Enough?

Belgie, your local team (Raith Rovers) aren't exactly inspirational, are they? Or do you support Dunfermline? Whatever, you're in great golf territory. I envy you, apart from the weather, that is.
