The family holiday is booked for two weeks at Jardim do vau in July. Took the plunge & booked the clubs on the plane…
The nearest course is Alto golf, also nearby are Alamos & Morgado, Gramacho, Pinta, & Palmares..

Any advice re which courses would be more receptive to higher handicappers?
And how to get best deals? i.e. pre booking? on the day?

Any thoughts / advice much appreciated!

Morgado and Gramacho for choppers as they are wide and forgiving. ;)

Palmares has been shut as they are extending to 27 holes and I think it is due to open any day but what condition it is in who knows....loved the original 18 and took a look at the new 9 at New Year and they looked nice as they are overlooking the shore so will be interested to hear what is is like.

If you can hang on for 2 weeks i'll tell you. I'm off to Ferragudo tomorrow and planning to play Gramacho and Pinta.

Morgado is wide open and pretty friendly. Palmeres is a bit more tricky but still not too tight but a bit hilly on the back 9. I'd consider Silves too, a few miles inland and part of the Gramacho/Vale da Pinta chain.

Played Gramacho late on friday afternoon. Tee'd off about 4.21pm for the twightlite. For a 2 ball including buggie it was 82 euro's andf worth every penny. It was a little busy and we were held up on many holes but we just enjoyed the veiw and didn't let the time bother us. We went round in 3½ hours. The course is very good, the fairways are short but very soft with most of the greens in very good nick. The fairways are not too tight but if you stray you'll be fine. They have about 1 tree every 10 yards and the rough grass is very short so you can find your ball very easily. There's is water on 2 holes and the road runs along 3 or 3 holes with some apartments along some other holes. I would estimate the width of most fairways including the rough is 100+yrds. It's a great course for the price. Just going back to being held up by slow play, I rang at 4pm on Sunday to see if they had a spare time, all they had was 4.21, so I quickly got ready and shot down expecting a line wating on the 1st and a line behind me. It took us 4 minutes to get thewre down the dirt road. When we got there we were straight on the tee. We didn't see another player for over an hour. The next players behind us were over 1½hrs behind and we didn't catch the next players up until the 16th. I'm either playing the faldo course or alvor this week so I'll let you know what I think of them.

tip, if you are a clean stricker of the ball I'd take 2 clubs less than what you would in the UK, I was hitting a 9 iron 170 yrds.
