I am currently in Mauritius (how sad that I took a laptop) and am looking to play one or two rounds (hotel has a 9 hole par 3 course which I have sampled already). Anyone got any recommendations of courses worth a try bearing in mind that I would like a challenge but not a course that is so testing as to make it unenjoyable for my skill level. Also, will need to hire clubs so any experience on what is on offer at most clubs would be useful.

Look forward to receiving any comments.

Dear GB72

I am so sorry to hear of your dilemma not knowing which course to play whilst you sun yourself on a paradise island. Unfortunately I have never been able to take advantage of being in such a lovely place at this time of the year as I am to busy trying to put some bread on the table for tea tonight. The kids are out begging off the neighbours for some warm blankets as my utilities have been cut off, I was paying off the bills bit by bit
But i had to post bail for my wife when she was arrested for selling her body after I was made redundant. However enough of my troubles please let me know how you get on.

I was in Mauritius for a couple of weeks last June. I had packed my golf shoes and I did consider playing one of the courses, but when I weighed-up the cost of the green-fee, hiring the clubs, hiring the buggy and the taxi there and back, I thought it was a bit too expensive, so I just laid around the pool.

I understand that Belle Mare Plage is one of the best there, if that's any help.

Hi, I was lucky enough to stay at the Paradis Hotel & Golf Club a few years ago.

The lace is amazing as you will know by now. The golf course is one of the best I've ever played although there is water on lots of holes and the different grass types takes a bit of getting used to... no bump and runs and all that!

I'd definitely recommend it, though I've no idea what the costs where.

That's a hell of a coincidence - I was sitting in the pub last night with a couple of old GMs looking at their reviews of golf in Mauritius.

Think it won the IAGTO award for best far eastern golf destination this year (or some other similar catagory).

I seem to remember reading that there's about 6 courses on the island but many are tied up for the use of their own resort guests only.

Im sure however that if enough palms are greased there will be a way to slip a round or two in.

I'll post anything useful I find when I get home so expect something around 19.00 Hrs GMT

How long was your flight out of interest and who did you fly with? Package or self booked? hotel or self catering?

Have you thought about popping over to Reunion or is it too far?

GB72 :

Depends where you're staying ?

Belle Mare Plage has 2 courses which are good, The Legends in particular.

Le Telfair in the south has an 18hole course.

New Ernie Els designed course at Anahita.....

Anyway, you've got the laptop and time on your hands to do the searches !!

Enjoy, Mauritius is a stunning place. :)

Le Touessrok has a fabulous Course.....
