Hi,
I am heading to Malaga for 3 days in the new year playing golf and suggestions on 3 courses to play would rather more open longer courses than tight short courses, also how do you put your handicap and whats in the bag on your profile as this is my first post.
Thanks Mike

So many to choose from. Partly depends on what your transport arrangements and where you are staying.

I have played Santa Maria, Alhaurin, Almenara and La Cala (*3) and enjoyed all of them. Torrequebrada wasn't the best I have played, neither La Quinta - but they were still fine!! There's loads to choose from and you'll need to read up on current conditions too as there may be work going on. Comes down to personal pref, but you won't go far wrong.

Enjoy and welcome to the forum.

Santa Maria is my favourite in that area. Also Mijas Golf has 2 - 18 hole tracks, both very enjoyable and very forgiving for holiday golf. You won't lose any balls there, unless you put them in the lakes, unlike Alhaurin where you can expect to part with about 6.

Alhaurin is a very good course,i played there in june this summer but i wouldnt play on a weekend again. It was chocker allday and were waiting on the tees at times.

Take plenty of balls tho:rolleyes:

I lost 3 just off the 7th(i think)tee. where yu have to hit down onto a dogleg fairway from the top.

If it's wide fairways you want Santa Maria would be an ideal course to play and is one of the cheaper courses.
La Cala has 3 courses the newest being Europa which is the poorest of the 3,the course being squeezed on to the side of a mountain with some fairways resembling stairs with steps for you to play from...play America which is a decent layout with generous fairways,Asia is a bit tighter.
Mijas courses are good for holiday golf, plenty room off the tee.
Stay away from Lauro, not the cheapest for nothing and wasn't hugely impressed with Alhaurin, too many blind shots although the back 9 did get better.

Enjoy the forum and your holiday..

I wouldn't describe La Quinta as open; there are some tight fairways with houses lining both sides and Spanish builders commenting on every shot.

Couple of things to remember about it;
if you're renting clubs, the pro shop doesn't open until 8.00 so an early round is not recommended if you want a chance to practice (can't use a driver on the practice range).
if it's been wet think twice about how you plan to get round; some of the concrete paths are very steep and have virtually no grip even when dry.

Hi,
The problem is I hit most of them 290 straight down the middle so most of the par 4's are a drive and a chip and 2 of the other guys are long but a bit wild off the tee so looking for something thats a bit open and long. Thanks for the suggestions .

Spending all winter working on my game from 100 yards in as it is my biggest weakness the amount of times last year i turned a 300 yard drive into a 5 or 6 i do not care to think about hope to have the handicap down to 6/7 this time next year.
