Me and my friend are up in glasgow for a day for a scholarship meeting, we are looking to also play our first round of links golf while we are up there.

I know there's a large scottish contingent on here, any recommendations on golf courses in and around glasgow.. price in not so much of an issue.

Thanks, Liam

Well, you won't get any links golf in Glasgow.
Probably your best bet is down the Ayrshire coast. Only a short distance from Glasgow...some great links courses there especially if price isn't an issue.

Turnberry's one of the furthest from Glasgow ( about 50 miles). I'd allow at least 90 mins to drive from Glasgow.

Troon's a good bit closer, as is the wonderful Western Gailes.

I'll echo the shout for Western Gailes, it's a truely fantastic links course, very very over shadowed by it's near neighbours such as Royal Troon, Prestwick and Turnberry. In my opinion it more than holds it's own against these.

Just email Turnberry and they will accomodate you if that's where you want to play. I'd be inclined to go for either Prestwick or Western Gailes. Easier access from Glasgow Airport.

Royal Troon is nice, very nice however if the wind is blowing it's potentially the toughest and longest back 9 in golf, it can become a slog!

Others worth considering although not quite as well known are Dundonald, owned by Loch Lomond. Barassie in Troon, Troon Portland, Irvine Bogside, Glasgow Gailes, or Prestwick St Nicholas.

Options are there you just need to decide where you want to go.
