Hi Everyone!

I'm heading up to Durham for Uni in September. Naturally, I had to check what courses were nearby. It seems that the Uni golf society plays Brancepeth Castle regularly and do training sessions at Ramside Hall.
Has anyone played these or played any other courses in the area?

Cheers!

Brancepeth really nice course, some cracking par 3's too
Ramside, top venue too, with range and good facilities.

Durham city golf club, isn't too far away either, and I'd defenitely recommend a game there.

I like Ramside, good course and set up and they have added an extra course since I was there last. Not played Brancepeth but it has a very good reputation. Seaton Carew is not far away and that is highly rated. You also have Close House near by if you cross the river. Lovely.

Absolutely spoilt for choice, as said Ramside and Brancepath are excellent courses, Ramside has 2 courses, Cathedral (Brand new) and nearly 7000yds, Prince Bishop (older) both a good test.
Chester-le-street is also close by and a very good course.

Cheers for the feedback chaps!
Looks like I'll have quite a few courses to try out once I make the move.
After a bit I digging I also found out the Uni does matches against Ganton, Formby, Royal Cinque Ports and Walton Heath.

I was a member at Brancepth and the uni do play out of there. It's a great track. The par 3 holes really make it. There's a deep ravine cuts through the course so you have to drive over it on several holes. I only moved clubs because the one Im at is less than a mile away .

Brancepeth is a cracking course, also Durham City is really nice course.

Ramside isn't bad either, the new course wasn't in the best of conditions when I played it but hopefully it should be better now the weather is warming up.

As others have said you are spoilt for choice really, if you have transport you also have Seaton, Hartlepool and Cleveland GC all within 30mins or so drive.

Thanks to the posters here. I am just across the border in Northumberland but all of these courses are within easy driving distance. There are some courses here that I will be looking to play at that I would not have thought of before.

And in my opinion, Wearside GC just outside Sunderland is a hiiden gem, well worth a visit.

Another shout for Hartlepool. I'm a member there if you ever fancy a knock. Probably around 20-30 min drive from Durham. Tricky little links course in great Nick.
