Afternoon all

Anybody out there managed to get a perfect setup for those horrible days when it pours down for the full length of your round?

I haven't quite mastered it yet despite having:

  • umbrella holder on trolley with mini towel under the umbrella
  • waterproof bag with cover
  • full waterproof clothing (GG)

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but my main issues are wet clubs (grips), wet hands, wet back from dripping down neck.

Anybody got any good tips out there to keep your kit as dry as possible on these days?

I also have a plastic bag with about a half a dozen part used gloves, and a carrier bag with a spare towel.

Rain glove, then just ignore the rain as best possible. Been toying with the idea of an obnoxious bucket hat but I don't play in the rain enough.

Seriously the rain gloves are amazing, I never wear both because it feels strange but even with just the one it is a revelation

As above about the rain gloves, they really do work. Don't worry about trying to keep your grips dry. As an alternative, you can also use either latex gloves or marigolds, both work well.

The challenge is keeping yourself warm and dry but with an umbrella and a set of GG's you should be fine.

Rain gloves are a must, and the wetter they are the better they work. Always keep them in your bag (when they are dry) just in case. Accept that you are going to get wet and just get on with it. Half the field are already beaten by the weather as they seem to think that they will melt if the rain touches their skin. This means that they spend most of their energy/concentration on keeping dry rather than playing golf.

One of the ways your grips get wet are when they are returned to your bag.
The water off the head and the shafts runs down onto the grip in the bag so make sure you dry the head and shaft before returning.

I hate the rain and am one of the people that are beaten if its raining, then again I hate bright sunshine and wind as well, dull and overcast and I'm in my element.

Shorts and synthetic polo top + cap.

Mac wets.

Forget anything about keeping anything dry whilst going round.

Alternatively, caddie and waterproofs, umbrellas, loads of towels and gloves - loads of hassle.

Only ever played once in truly appalling rain for the whole round - Cooden event arranged by Rob

Rain = soft slow greens = target golf and birdies. Some of my best scores were in the wet.

Get a big bag on an electric trolley, loads of spare towels in separate plastic bags. Brolley holder on trolley is the best thing to save you handling the umbrella, keep a bag cover on the bag too, zipped up between shots, dry the club grip before it goes back in the bag. If you're happed up in gear take more club, choke down a little and swing smoothly to avoid heavy 'fats'. CSS will likely go up too so get your head around it that everyone has got it equally tough, you're going to get wet (skin is waterproof) so wear a second skin base layer and enjoy. Keep a groove cleaner in your pocket too.
You may get away with a harder distance ball as you wont need the prov1 type spin.

Just be glad you don't wear specs, if you do get some throwaway daily contacts for rainy days.

On this note, because the greens are slower and the ball is travelling faster for more of the distance, allow significantly less break

clip a golf towel on to the spokes of your brollie with a carabiner that way its easy to get to and stays relatively dry!

Fj 3/4 water proof jacket, puma tech waterproof trousers , cap, mac wets straight on and game on. It's if continuous why try to fight it?

I've just opted for a set of FJ wet gloves with micro fibre towel which seem very good also.

Played some of my best golf with this set up, it's spot on for me.

I give my umbrella away too much of a chew.

I go with waterproof cap, waterproofs and a pair of Macwets just let the clubs get wet.

As long as I'm not too cold doesn't fuss me too much the rain now.

Agree with most of previous, mac wets, GG waterproofs etc, however, best thing I've ever invested in for rainy days, SEALSKINZ Socks, guaranteed warm dry feet, no matter how much it rains, greatest invention ever , imo of course
