Just got back from a week's holiday in Anglesey and thought I'd post a quick review of the three courses that I played.

First off though, the island has a surprising number of courses, both 9 and 18 holes.
There's also a great offer to be had called the Anglesey Island Golf Pass whereby for £89 you can play 5 rounds of golf on any of the 18 hole courses; Anglesey Golf Club, Baron Hill, Bull Bay, Henllys, Holyhead and Storws Wen. A proper bargain if ever there was one.

Holyhead - http://www.holyheadgolfclub.co.uk/
Not a long course but one that needs to be plotted round. Some narrow fairways and a few where you can open up, 6090 yards from the whites, par of 71 and SSS 70.
Several blind shots so I'd buy the course planner if you've not played it before, my 5 wood got a lot of use from the tee. Heathland type course with plenty of gorse and general condition was pretty good.
Favourite holes for me were; 7, 12, 16 & 17

Bull Bay - http://www.bullbaygc.co.uk/
Another heathland type course with its fair share of gorse but much more testing than Holyhead. Again not that long at 6,276 yards from the white tees but has a par of 70 and a SSS of 72.
Blind shots again feature on several holes so a planner or knowledgeable partner is advised. A lot of elevation chances made for thinking golf and many raised greens meant careful shot selection was required if you wanted to get close to the hole, or even find the green!
Condition was very good, some great views from the clifftop location and some frightening tee shots, especially when the wind is blowing which it was when I played it.
My favourite holes were; 4, 7, 11 and 18

Angelsey - http://www.angleseygolfclub.co.uk/
From the white tees, 6,330 yards with a par of 70 and SSS of 71.
Once you crossed under the railway after the first three holes this was proper links golf which is what I always want to play when on holiday, but this was even better, raw links golf!
Sometimes hard to tell where the fairway ended and the rough began, sheep grazing across the course (I had to clear several piles of sheep crap away before I chipped to the 17th green), gorse and reeds aplenty, one or two completely bare patches of ground on the fairway, many humps and mounds to throw your ball off line and to top it all the wind was also blowing to give the full experience.
Greens were generally good for what looks like a club run on a tight budget. The only downer for me was that a club that claims to be “noted for its friendliness and warm welcome” directs visitors to the visitor’s car park which at best can be described as a piece of waste land.
Favourite holes; 8, 10, 15 & 18

I’d happily play all three courses again but Bull Bay is the stand out.
