Interesting video on 'fundamentals' by Mark Crossfield.

I play with someone who could easily be Happy Gilmore - he overswings, his hands go above his head, his left foot comes off after impact etc etc.. but he does manage to put the ball on the fairway 7 times out of 10...

As Crossfield says, dont really care about how you takeaway as long as you deliver the club square, its all right.

Even more importantly that you have fun and not worry about it, I am slowly coming to that realisation and my golf is improving for it too.

Spot on !!!

I've now given up with lessons. I used to have fun, hit the ball with a reasonable, but a pro would say 'flawed' swing, but would in the most part hit the ball where I wanted to. I was regularly shooting mid-70's with my imperfect technique.

After a couple of years of lessons trying to get a more traditional swing, which has almost driven me to quitting, I've spent the last couple of months basically doing what works for me.

Now I'm starting to hit the ball how I used to before all the lessons and consequently I'm enjoying playing again for the first time in ages. And my scores are dropping all the time and I'm getting close to starting to shoot rounds in the 70's again.

Mark Crossfield is right and he deserves credit for his videos. It really annoys me when people say oh 'you have a strong grip, thats wrong' or 'your swing is too flat'.

If you hit the ball well it doesnt matter what technique you have.

I agree with Mark to a certain extent.

If you're getting the club back to impact in the right way, consistently !! Then so what.

But I do think there are things that you can do in your setup, backswing, downswing etc that will increase your chances of doing it consistently.
