Hello,

My name is Emma and I work for Street Child Africa, a charity that supports children living on the streets and helps them turn their lives around by providing food, shelter, education or vocational training.

We are trying to fundraise through a Golf Day on May 19th but are short on teams- we are desperate! Would anyone be interested in playing and supporting us? Or do you know other people who might be?

Tickets are £300 per team of 4 and that includes hot bacon rolls at midday, 18-hole game, 2 course dinner, and prize giving.

The day will take place at Badgemore Park Golf Club in Henley on Thames.

Sky Sport presenter John Salako will be on hand to cheer us on!

Any ideas on how we can get more teams would be much appreciated!!!
Please contact emma@streetchildafrica.org.uk for more information and posters.
Big thanks from all the team!

Hi Emma, good cause so I dont think anyone will mind you trying to drum up support !
I'm a bit far away i'm afraid to attend, but good luck.

I must admit, I watched the BBC prog recently with Lenny Henry et al in the slums of Kibeca (?) - slum of Nairobi, and was really moved when Lenny couldnt bear it anymore and actually bought the 4 kids their own house - was very uplifting. Even more so when he returned for the Comic Relief prog too, and the kids were moved to tears to see him, he's obviously become a surrogate father for the one they lost, and hats off to him, I bet he's funding/helping them regularly now.

Hi!

Thanks for your response! I have watched this program and it was very touching! We work with African partners in Ghana, Uganda, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Senegal, Nigeria, and the Congo. A few of them have started prevention work by opening up creches so that the mums who work in the markets can leave their children there. It's all invaluable work. We did apply for Comic Relief funding this year but unfortunately were not successful ( I am sure you can imagine the large number of charities that apply!) So, it's all up to our Events and Fundraising team this year!

If you are interested in fundraising locally in your area please do let me know and I can send you information about what we do. We sometimes ask people if they can post flyers in their schools, parishes, or work places.. We're a small team, so we haven't completely reached up north yet!:)

In any case, thank you for your remote support! :)

Emma and the team!

i have total respect in what you are doingand anyone else that raises money for any charity but i would rather support a charity that will help children in this country before anywhere else

I really really dislike this kind of comment. We are fortunate enough that our ancenstors left Africa and settled in a more affluent area of the world but we are still all the same race and share the same planet. They need money and help so much more than we do.

I disagree. Plenty of problems in the UK that need sorting first. Charity begins at home etc. Bearing in mind we've just had Red Nose day and the xx million that raised on behalf of African Children then I'm with the OP and I'd rather give to home grown charities. I don't for one second think the plight of African kids should be ignored but with limited funds, my charitable causes are always going to be UK based. On the plus side I hope the golf day raises loads of cash and that if anyone from here takes part they fly the GM flag proudly

I don't want to get into a whole debate about who needs it most but if we wait until our own problems are sorted first then basically we will never help other people. There will always be people who need help in this country and that is why a lot of the Red nose day/children in need money goes to children in this country too.

There are not thousands upon thousands of children dying of malaria or starvation in this country though. They need our help and I don't like the whole "lets help ourselves first" mentality.
