Hello All,
Just joined the forum to try and get a little bit of information on golf clubs and courses in Cornwall.
I'm considering moving to Cornwall in the next 6 months and was hoping to get some information on the best golf clubs to join. I have looked online at a few corses near Truro and have seen the following clubs.
- Tehidy
- Perranporth
- West Cornwall
- Killow
- Truro
Can anyone give me a short review of these courses and advise which are the best...
Also if anyone knows which would be the best for socialising as well as actually playing that would be great.
Many Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex and welcome to the forum.
I live about 20 miles from Truro and have played a few of the courses you mention.
Tehidy Park is a nice enough golf course but quiet bland and forgetable. The course was in nice enough shape when I played there but it didn't really stick in the mind.
Perrenporth is a lovely course but will punish shots even when well hit. There are several blind shots, which I don't mind at all, which makes locating a ball even harder at times and it's windy, very windy most of the time.
West Cornwall I haven't personally played but those at my club that have always look forward to going there.
Killiow is my favourite out of the list by some way. Lovely parkland course with some really interesting holes including the par 4 9th which has OOB all the way down the right, 3 ponds and a stream that splits the fairway. Great hole! It can get quiet wet in the winter on some of the lower holes and there is quiet a long walk between the 10th green and 11th tee. The members are really friendly and I always look forward to our friendly matches there. It's only a 5 minute drive from Truro city center.
Truro I've never played but no one ever looks forward to playing there and having met a few of the members through events my daughter attended I wouldn't want to be a member there anyway.
My first choice would be Killiow for parkland golf and Perrenporth for links golf. I know that Perrenporth did a deal last year where you could buy ten rounds at a discount price. Oh and Killiow Nick Faldo pops down to every now and again for a quick round.
Give me a shout when your coming down and we can sort a game out sometime.

I found Truro GC pleasant enough but a bit short and not particularly memorable - that could have been because FiL (a bandit off 13) was in the nearby hospital with only a few days left! Any Cornish course has great views and is good exercise! Llanhydrock (sp?) is meant to be really good but might be too far. I'd trust Andy's recommendation though

I've played St Enodoc, Perranporth and the two courses at St Mellion (where I am staying in March in fact).
St Enodoc - excellent links course - very tough test of golf - you need a handicap certificate
St Mellion - Nicklaus course is narrow and tough - but a great course
St Mellion - the Kernow - easier than the Nicklaus but also of good quality
Perranporth - played it on the windiest day and it was hard, hard, hard work but it is a nice course. The views are the best bit of the course and it is challenging if you don't stay on line. (full review of perranporth here; http://golfdrawer.com/course-reviews/perranporth-golf-club/)

I'd recommend all three (four)

Cheers

Perrenporth is a good course. Very hard. Hitting a 5 iron onto a green 80ft above you 110 yards away takes a lot of practice. Also never closed and always on full greens. Stunning veiws, great undulating greens.

Hello All,

Thanks for the feedback so far. I'll probably look to play most of the courses before deciding on where to join... Joing costs could be part of the selection process as well but most seemed fairly reasonable. Probably won't be heading down there until Late spring/early summer anyway so at least i should get to see them all in good condition...!

Thanks again :)

Do they have clubs for rent? I'm down there in August, but wont have room in the car for the sticks, but would like to sneak off for a morning.......
