Afternoon all,

Next weekend I am playing at The Nottinghamshire for 2 days and have just come across a problem when finalising the hotel booking.

The hotel we are staying in is demanding £25 extra per golf bag that we are storing in our rooms for insurance.

We done feel comfortable leaving 8 sets of clubs in a minibus which will be parked off site.

Anyone ever had anything like this before? Where do you usually store your clubs when going away on a golfing weekend? This will be my first golfing trip!

Any help is much appreciated

Thanks
Matt

Sounds a little fishy, surely there is an option not to pay this. If there isn't I would demand they have them cleaned daily as part of the cost!

I booked the rooms about 3 months ago for the 8 of us.
Just thought i would ring up today to double check everything is paid and mentioned we wouldnt be checking in until about 8pm as we are playing golf, thats when i was told its £25 per bag if we are to store them in our rooms.

Seems abit stupid to me as my watch is worth more than all of my bag and clubs.

We travel a lot with our clubs and have never ever been asked to pay extra for them.
Do they get their own room?

Never ever heard of a hotel asking for extra because of golf bags ? Would look for another hotel

I've never heard of this before either, surely your clubs are part of your luggage so what's the problem, i don't see how they can stop you unless your bags were soaking wet and you were dragging mud into the room.

Check the T&C of your booking and if there is no mention of the charge don't pay it and take you clubs in.

If you choose to fight this follow the above advice, look for any mention of it prior to the phone call.

Something just sounds a little wrong here and I think you need to do some research and make a complaint about the timing at the very least.

Is the insurance against any of you causing damage to the fabric of the hotel with your equipment, or against the theft of your equipment from the hotel? If the latter, your own insurance should cover you.

I've golfed all over the world and never had an issue with keeping clubs in a hotel room.

the hotel should have a secure storage area for such items, no need to store 8 bags in a room.

Never come across that. Been in some places where golf bag has been take away as we arrived and was waiting for us at the golf desk as we went out to play or to book out.

Strange idea from hotel.

Sounds like the hotel is trying to pull a fast one. As stated above, ask to see it in writing in the booking T&C's, if it's not in there then refuse to pay it.

If it is part of a chain of hotels call head office as it may be the staff trying to earn a bit extra on the side. Never heard of this before, why golf clubs. You may have something else in your room mor valuable but they have not asked about this I assume.

Ask to see the T&C's and if they are a chain mail head office. If you get no joy tell them unless they waive the charge your cancel the booking. I'm sure 8 x£x per night is going to mean a fair bit to them, especially if you pull out at thin juncture although I'd check any T&C regarding cancellation. They always have something about that!

It could be a long shot, but it might be wrath asking the course you're playing at if they can store the clubs overnight for a small (but substantially less) fee. Certainly save a lot of hassle too.

Sounds ridiculous. Surely the clubs are only going to be stored at times when you are either sleeping or the evening when you are having a meal and a drink when only you should be accessing the room. When cleaners etc have access to the room you would be on the course using them!!!

Fly one in my eyes. I'd ask the hotel why they are so concerned about the need for insurance.

If you don't sort this out then you should name and shame so the rest of us know to avoid them if we ever plan trips into the area.

Bit confused, are they charging you a £25 insurance premium for them? If so say that they will be insured under your house insurance.

check the terms and conditions of your booking......If it dose not mention, then you don't have to pay. This would be an additional charge/service.....

Never, in all my years of travelling, have I heard of this.
The £200 they want from your group alone would more than cover any extra insurance costs they incur for an entire year - if they incur any at all, which I seriously doubt.
Like others, I cannot see the difference between storing "normal" luggage and golf clubs, particularly high value items such as watches, laptops etc which in any case the hotel don't usually accept responsibility for if they are stolen, lost or damaged.
One of the great things about golf forums is the sharing of relevant info. Other golfers should know about this practice, so we can avoid the hotel ( which may make them review this policy). Name and shame!
