after many discussions I was to set up a facebook page for our swindle so we can arrange games such as knock outs and also get people socialising more. Dont get me wrong its a good group but the idea of the facebook page was to get more mixing going on during the week when people fancied a knock about without everyone having to have each persons phone numbers.

I have set the page up and it looks pretty ideal taking into account some of our older members are not facebook users so i didnt want to get over-technical.

Club logo -
Course images - including club house.
Links to the main site -
Discussions page - for arranging games as so on

Any other clubs here on facebook, and more importantly any other idea's of what could go on it. I was thinking of linking to some of the manufactures sites such as titleist, nike, and so on.

I've seen a couple of clubs utilise facebook. It's a great idea imho. It's potentially great for "up to date" news on the course (closures, comp dates etc..etc..).

Good idea.

I started our clubs facebook page last weekend in a drive to keep people interested in the new website I created.

Got HID to join but I am not sure if many people are using it, but I give it a few weeks and if not I will close it down. I did mention to the assistant Pro he could be a Admin and update the course status on it, he hasnt joined yet so we see.

Good work and I am sure your page will grow.

maybe i should have been a clearer on the links. Alot of manufactures have a site, Taylormade golf for example have quite a nice facebook page.

Ive checked for golfmonthly and it seems a pretty dead to be honest, with only 10 people visiting the page against staylormades million.

I have to be carefull about which business's i request to link the site too as no doubt someone my question if i was to link it to an online store incase i had alteria motives, but brand manufactures seem neutral in respect that if someone is announced on TM's page, that then shows on our page, anyone of our members could request this from the pro shop.

we have mentioned to the shop that they are able to post special offers or new stock updates on our wall, and obvioulsy course info like closures. we have chosen to request members arrange games via the discussions page as we didnt want to much banter on the front page in an effort to try and keep the page professional. Obvioulsy we dont want it turning into a spamming site for the pro shop trying to get business, nor a site for people to log on and abuse each other. I think we will like you run it for a period of say 3 months. if after this nothing is moving... ZAP...CLICK....GONE! :D

If older folk don't use facebook anyway then why would they worry what the page looks like? :D

mutlee, there were loads of additional facilities as an organisation that your can use, but with some of the older members just about working the interwebby thingy and email i wanted to keep the page as simple as possible without making it conusing. This is not to say the page cannot manture as the traffic increases and some of the members who are not currently on facebook get familiar with it and its functions.
