My son is 12 years old and stands at just over 150cm (5ft), he's been playing golf for approx 3 years and has now out grown his old clubs, What clubs should i buy him next. Junior clubs are too short, mens clubs are too heavy and tool long, so should i buy him ladies clubs?

Ladies clubs are a good ,i think they are generally a inch shorter per iron compared to a mans set, finding a set of ladies clubs which still look like mens clubs will be a bit of a challenge though

what about a pair of stilts and crack on with an adult set!
to be honest, unless you can get a set of seniors or non ladylike ladies clubs Id get his existing clubs extended an inch or so and wait until hes a little taller then get him a full set of proper tools.

Andi is on the case.

I bought my last set of kids clubs for my daughter this past summer. She's 140cm.
From here on in it's got to be ladies clubs for a bit.....even for the boys....

There must be some nice looking ladies sticks that aren't too girly.

Masters golf used to do age range individual irons i.i.r.c.

My plan (for a boy) would be to get a set of men's irons (as light as possible) and get them cut down.....probably safest with steel, not everyone is happy to cut graphite.....I'd expect a golf pro at a municipal or driving range to be sympathetic and cut a set down for £20 if you go for new grips as well.

As mad as it sounds, we have a junior aged 12 (not tall) off 14 (?) who just uses his granddads old set of graphite with senior flex....he's a good player and doesn;t struggle.

I have been using a couple of ladies' woods and these suit my geriatric swing. I have just invested in a new Callaway Big Bertha ladies' driver for which I have high hopes.
These should suit a growing lad and they will keep him satisfied for several years. I recently gave my grandson, 16yrs, a driver with a Graffaloy Blue Ladies' shaft and have had no complaints.

Nothing wrong in ladies clubs for young adults.

My Missus is 5 ft & ladies clubs are spot on, though finding something that has good weight & balance is the key.

Now although the inserts are pink the Cleveland CG pinks are about the best on the market for the ladies & anyone who hasn't yet built up upper body strength. So if he can put up with the potential ribbing, with a knowing smile that he'll have the best on the market no matter what the colour of the inserts or grips & if he's a Poulter or Edfors fan he'll be able to blag some credibility with ease. Oh the Ladies Cobra Irons etc are worth a look too, not as balanced as the Cleveland but might add credebility lol

Having said this If you are in the Midlands my other half does have a couple of sets (One set of Wilsons & One set of Golden Bear) she no-longer needs.

If you are looking for a set of ladies clubs that do not look like ladies clubs then you could try MD Blackhawks. The only way that you can tell that they are not mens' clubs is a little bit of writing on the black graphite shafts.

I'd go to your PGA pro and get his advice. If he looks at the kid swing he'll be able to tell what sort of club will suit best rather than go to AG etc where the quality of advice on offer may not be the best.

Hi kevin, my lad is 10 1/2 and I plan to have one of my sets in the garage altered for him or failing that, have inserts and new grips on his old set that hes about to outgrow, havent decided yet, if you have money to spend get him measured up.

Herb, I'd be slightly cautious doing this as if you are shortening the shafts, it's likely that it'll effectively be the equivelent of stiffening the shaft too.

Measuring up as Herb says is always a good first plan of action, especially where these young teenagers are about to shoot up in height anyway.
