Golf club meals etc

I've no Idea if this subject has been mentioned before as am I Chef I would like to know your insights of how well or bad your Golf course food is ..

How would you best describe it ..

Re: Golf club meals etc

Our club food is "average".
Best food I have ever had, at any club, is Copthorne in East Sussex. All of their kitchen staff are Spanish and they have been there for years. Great grub.
I hate these courses that try to mess around with their food too much. If I want fancy food, I'll go to a restaurant.
Playing on some society days I'd rather have steak and kidney pud after a game on a great golf course than a ponced up meal on a goat track that costs the same money.

Decent food at decent prices. Coronation chicken Ciabatta and
a pretty good Club Sandwich are both under £4. Homemade soup also vg. I quite often take my family down for sunday lunch or dinner and it is the best value anywhere.

We only have pretty basic food but its well priced, quickly served and tasty too.
Sausage and bacon baguette with chips - luverly..

UNless its a Society day out I don't need posh nosh. even at places like Forest of Arden a bacon butty before and fish and chips after does me fine.

RA does pretty run of the mill clubhouse food although the curry some of the GM guys had got great reviews (and had Tappers in a real sweat). They do a decent carvery every Sunday which is usually fully booked too

Re: Golf club meals etc

Wybo doesn't really count as a 'club' as it is also a conference centre/hotel so the food is pretty good quality.
The big problem is that they don't understand the function of golfers' fare - can't get a good bacon roll, it's xyz bacon on ciabatta with half a field - fgs, I'm a carnivore!

but, I also play society golf, 36 holes, breakfast, lunch and/or dinner. quite a few are very ordinary - lost after ham, egg and chips. There are some standout venues though,

my personal No. 2 is Aspley Guise - generous portions (afternoon round tends to be a little slow!) of excellent quality, well-cooked food.

new No. 1, just, Ashridge - choice of starters and desserts is vast, only two mains but quality throughout. and that was just the lunch!

Our caterers (self employed franchise) have been in place just over a year and are superb. For our regular dine in's we have 3 courses with 3 choices for each + coffee etc for £16 per head. Really good quality, great presentation and service and sold out every time. Had nearly 100 dining for Sunday lunch last week (mothers day) and generally the club is really busy every Sunday throughout the year which generates money for us via the bar. Day to day stuff is good too.

I only ever get sausage toasties at our place and they not bad. Nothing special but not bad. The do a good pot of coffee that makes up four cups for about £150 which is a bargain!
