I just asked a friend in work what his one signified and he didn't have a clue, despite being a member for 30 years. A horn, 3 mushrooms (I think), twigs, conkers and "Aequitate ac diligetia".

What is yours, and do you know what it signifies, or any unusual ones you've come across?

Ours has a Liverbird (Liverpool), star of David (jewish club), 2 golf clubs and what I can only presume is a red rose of Lancashire. No hidden meanings there that I can see.

Anyone have ones with masonic leanings........

We just have a buzzard with a couple of clubs below it

Ours is just a pheasant and year the club was founded (1895).

Pheasant is due to the estate where the course moved to at the turn of the century was previously used for pheasant shooting.

Still loads of them roaming around the course now.

On the subject of heraldic badges, can anyone identify this one?

I have a feeling that it might be from the greater Liverpool area , because the moline cross on it is associated with the Earl of Sefton

Blimey Homer, it's a bit dismissive to refer to it as "a couple of leaves" and a crown?

As you say your crown represents the Royal Patronage but your "leaves" are a laurel wreath - which represents victory - and often victory in an athletic sense. But then again, you and Hawkeye are members so perhaps it is just a couple of leaves :)

Anyone going to own up to having a blazer with a club badge.

I got rid of mine in 1976. The blazer was maroon in colour to match the badge and tie.
Went well with the powder blue slacks and white socks and pink shirt. [IMVVVVHO].

It was what I was wearing when I met the Head Gardener and we have been 'happily' married for 44 years so it must have had some pulling power.

Ah, the good old days when a blazer was just as necessary as a putter ;) Never had a blazer with the Club badge on it, but managed to go through a fair few Club ties over the years. Used to play in Club friendly matches and the Blazer and Club tie was very much the fashion for the after match hospitality. Only really dig out the Club tie for the Annual Dinner nowadays as everything else is so much more casual :D

Club Badge in its present form.

The castle in the centre is reference to the City of Edinburgh Coat of Arms which has a Castle as one of its main features. The shape of the Badge is actually based on the actual membership badges that were issued when the Club was founded and in its early years.

I've been fortunate enough to find one of them in a bric a brac shop. Cleaned up quite nicely and far nicer looking than a plastic disc on your bag. You could be fined if you weren't wearing it when playing out on the course.

Peasant is due to the council estate where the course moved to at the turn of the century was previously used for peasant shooting.

Fixed. You, Simon and Chellie out are you Ian?

How times change.:whoo:
