I know these guys aren't 'official' but they say they are recognised by many of the top courses in the UK and EU.

Is that true or is it garbage?

For example if I wanted to go and play at Gleneagles would they accept a GCGB handicap or just laugh in my face?

given that many courses simply aren't that concerned about handicap certificates it's hard to be definitive. Gleneagles certainly isn't that worried and I've never been asked for one on the many occassions I played there.

I must be getting mixed up with St Andrews. I'm sure I read somewhere that one of those two at least requires you to submit handicap cards before playing.

Although I obviously haven't played there so don't have any first hand experience of it

I think the key point is that if somewhere requires either sight of a handicap certificate, or even a specific level of handicap, then I wouldn't want to rely on anything that wasn't issued by an authorised handicap authority.

What is Gleneagles like btw?

My friend and I are looking into a holiday in Scotland next year and we are probably bringing our clubs to play some of the courses up there.

you can put together a whole trip to stunning courses without going near any of the big names up there. The best thing about Gleneagles is the Hotel, specifically the breakfast, but then again the Kings is a very pleasant course to play, Queens is short with some quirks, PGA is very different indeed - I think I prefer the Rosemount @ Blairgowrie in that area/type of course. The 'locals' on here can give you a lot more idea of how to put to gether a trip - suggest posting a seperate thread, but including the area you are considering rather than just 'Scotland'.

I joined a couple of years back you do get a plastic h/cap card that looks the business if nothing else and a brochure with all the courses that accept their issued cert. I wouldnt mi d betting there is a list on their website. IMO you be just as well buying one on eBay!

I am due to play the PGA at Gleneagles next week and certainly havnt been asked to bring a handicap certificate

Seen someone turned away from the Old Course for not having a handicap certificate, so you definitely need one there.
