in may this year i purchased myself a shinny new burner 09 driver. i fell in love with this when it come out late last year but the 299 price tag urged me to wait.

So in May i see the club i want at 149... whooohooo kerghing, and its in the bag. i often kep eye on fleebay to see what their worth and they always seem to still make 100-120 used so i still think i got a bargin...

WRONG!!!!!!!!

on sunday i walk into my local american golf, same club/shaft etc... £89.00. Obviously a stinking cheap bargin for someone looking to purchase a new driver, but it bring the question " what do you expect your clubs to depreciate in a year.

I work out that my 12 month old driver has 70% of its value and its still only hit 200-300 balls if its lucky. is this just a TM thing with their " new month new model" ethics.

to be fare i dont see me replacing the driver any time soon, it works well when im swinging well and is plently long enough for me to hit most par 5's in 2, i just cant beleive how much value the club in question had lost.

its got me wondering is it just a TM thing. Ive always liked the TM stuff, but after joining this forum and hearing the " oh they have released another model jokes " ive started looker closer at the brand, and to be fair i cant beleive how many new clubs they can release in one season, this must surely screw resale value.

I normally manage to buy a club as its new replacement comes out, have it 2 years and make pretty decent money back, but with the tm stuff depreciating so badly, no friggin chance.

I've just checked and even though my driver has been replaced in the Ping range it's still up at full price on most websites. Maybe the price drop is a TaylorMade thing but saying that some Cobra and Nike drivers are dirty cheap at the moment too :)

the opnly good thing is now the club has lost so much money, it makes me want to keep it for longer to get my monies worth out of it. when it wasnt costing me much to upgrade i was bad for not sticking with things.

I bought my Titleist 909 for £279 in April. When I sold it in June to golfbidder, it was worth £60. Two months use, and it dropped £219 in value. It was mint too.

Bought my Nike for £97. A bit more like it.

murph, with repsect mate how could you part with it for 60.00, it would have made twice that on ebay.

lucan, i would never sell to golf bidder, id rather the silly " will this driver make my handicap half and misses gain 2 boob sizes overnight " questions from ebay and make proper money from my clubs. ;)

That's a bit like valuing your car using webuyanycar.com i.e. it's market value minus 40%

Thing is, with golf bidder, you drop it in, and you get your cheque. It isn't going to bounce, you aren't getting any complaints, no sob stories about being unable to pay can it be in installments, no postage, no insurance, no hassle.

Had bad experiences with ebay, and tend to avoid it.

It was £60, or bung it in the wardrobe.

i would have rather stored it than lose 200+ on it in less than 6 months. im interested in a 909 after reading some reviews, but it would have to be a bargin like yours was.

I think AG are actually selling off the 08 version of the driver and fairway woods at £89 which is still a great deal for a decent club. I have found that with Golfbidder going in is the best policy (obviously if you are close enough) as I flogged my R9's and my TM Tour Burners well over the price they had quoted me online. I was able to haggle and in the end got a pretty reasonable deal on both.

Most clubs tend to depreciate fairly rapidly and although TM rattle a new driver out every full moon they never seem to decrease the cost of the other models by much. I guess its swings and roundabouts. Some pros I know will give you a very good deal for 2nd hand clubs especially if you are getting the new ones from him. AG tend to just use Golfbidder anyway and you take your chances buying and selling off e-bay

If i buy soemthing for me to use then I'm not really concerned about the resale value. I want to use it to get the best out of it and some (hopefully) enjoyment from using it.

It's like buying a lovely car with nice leather seats then putting seat covers on them!!??

I had a TM burner 08 driver that I used for about 9 months
that cost me 149 quid from new, going to AG to buy a Mizuno
mx 700 driver they allowed me 50 pounds on the TM against 160 pounds I paid for the Mizuno so its not all bad.

The cost you paid was not the value of the club. The club would have cost £20-£35 to manufacture but they release it with an inflated asking price to offset their margin once the true value of the club settles, this is usually half the initial selling price.

TM and other golfing brands know that whenever they release a new club onto the
market there are some who will always buy it regardless of suitability or price.

Can't see why you are looking to be honest. Surely you have a budget and buy the one that does the job best and then keep it. I know that clubs move on, but surely most of us are not good enough to have to upgrade every year.

I don't get in a fluster about depreciation on anything.
If you buy wisely (like a £299 driver for £149) and it ends up at £50 trade-in or ebay, then it's cost £100 over the period you've used it. If that's 50-100 games, that's a quid or two for each game to carry a nice piece of kit you believe in/enjoy.
If something's not worth buying in the first place at full price, that's a different story.
If you like/liked it, I say be happy. :)
