Been playing with my Dad, who has a golf buddy GPS. On the 4 courses we have played so far, 3 of them have yielded similar distances, sky caddie to golf buddy, but today, they were anything up to 25 yards different.

Sky caddie was spot on to the yardage marked on the sprinkler heads. Golf buddy was way out. Sometimes long, sometimes short.

It may be cheap to run, but it is junk.

I think it boils down to the fact that SC get out and measure it on the ground whereas a lot of the other devices seem to rely on satellite imagery. If the holes have changed (lengthened, tee boxes moved etc) and they aren't update then there will be a discrepancy. The fact that SC are also willing to come in and remap any changes was one of the reasons I went with them when choosing my DMD

Surely this only matters if the green moves. If anything else changes the GPS will still tell you how far it is to the green. Now before anyone goes off on one, I have a Skycaddie and wouldn't change it.

See I like the golf buddy, then again I like the Skycaddie, but which one is better? There's only one way to find out....FIGHT.

A mate of mine has just bought a cheepish (£100) golf gps. He did tell me, but I can't remember and didn't reconise the name, he also mentioned it was paid for in dollars and course downloads also in $s. He was chuffed to bits untill he took it out. There was a loop of 3 holes that were a mile out, and one of the holes even had the front and back in reverse. When he contacted the supplier, they said this often happend in loopes and they would get it sorted, but it will take a while because all the courses are mapped in Japan.

Still happy with my SC ;)

Just as a footnote, has anybody tried downloading Castle Stuart on anything but a SC? It's just that when I tried looking at the course on Google Maps, it was still ploughed fields.
