What do you eat before you head out for a morning round of golf?

The past couple of weeks, i've had a really early tee time and have struggled to get up early enough to have a decent breakfast before heading up to the club for a brief warmup.

I've now decided to stop trying to get up for the really early tee times and settle for a mid morning tee time which will give me more time to chill out, eat properly and warm up properly.

Hopefully this will put an end to me feeling pretty tired and hungry half way through my round and i'll stop ruining my score card through the back 9.

How do you eat/prepare before your morning round?

Scrambled egg, bacon and toast. Washed down with Fanta. Don't drink coffee or tea, nasty stuff. Not nearly enough e numbers.

Skugger, around 2 months ago our group went through a patch of early tee times ( well we considered it early ) all tee's were between 6am and 7am

like you we didnt have enough time for breakfast so normally was powered by a coffee, chocolate bar on the 9th with a drink in the bag. We ALL noticed that by the 9th we were shattered, it was apparent by the score cards too as most would shot high teen stableford points on the front 9 then drop off on the second. We all agree'd that we would now not tee off earlier than 7.30 and atleast get time to have something to eat.

If i have breakfast at the club its normall egg or beens on toast with fruit in the bag of a cereal bar. the swing has gone to the dogs but none of us now feel dead on the 9th. If we are playing a long or hilly course we tend to go for a bit of a bulkier breakfast and a later tee time.

I live in the metropolis of Arbroath though. We've also got a Subway and a Wimpey. Mmmmmmmm Wimpey. KFC being built as we speak. Choices, choices, choices.

McDonalds very kindly built one of their junk food facilities en route from my house to the club.

Double sausage & egg muffin sir? Don't mind if I do.

McDonalds have a retaurant search facility on their web site, invaluable with early tee times at away clubs...sad but true.

Scrambled egg on toast ...... get to course at 9:20 go through practice routine ... range, short game then putting ....... tee of at 10:22 ......................

Just coffee before I head out. We have a half way hut on the 10th so tend to have a bacon or sausage roll to refresh my energy then.

I just wont play early golf nowadays,......hate it. It take me a while to come round, and even talking to the dog before 8am is a struggle.

Mid morning or early PM is the only time i'll consider playing a Comp, otherwise I know it aint gonna happen.

I have to eat breakfast anyway for my diabetes so usually sugar free Alpen or porridge. If I have a mega early tee time or need to be there early to warm up I'll just set the alarm 10 minutes earlier to give myself time. I don't have a problem getting up whatever time it is.

Once I have wiped the sleep out of my eyes at 5.30am I grab a mug of tea and some jam toast. Drink a pint of water.

In the bag is usually a couple of chocolate bars and a few bananas. A large squeezy bottle of water.

......a pack of 10 marlboro lights.......

Its the only time I smoke a few cigarettes is playing golf very weird I know.

A nice bowl of porridge Slugger!
I always ate this playing football and carried it into my golf.....Oats provide a slow release of energy that keep the body going for 4-5 hours.....You dont get the highs and lows associated with sugary foods such as choclate.....
Out on the course i eat fruit and get some kellogs oatie cookies into me about every 4 holes that way im never getting tired....Works for me.....Oh and i bring a litre bottle of diluted orange to wash it down.......

A packet of nuts and a banana will do the trick for you during your round also if your stuck for time beforehand
