I'm looking to book a golf break with my wife for a few days this summer. After the winter we have just had Portugal or Spain looks very attractive but I keep hearing horror stories of 5 hour plus rounds. I'm a fairly relaxed person normally but I could see that starting to get under my skin.

Is it really that bad? Any recommendations for resorts that might be a little quieter - preferably hotel and course on the same site.

Thanks

Aphrodite Hills, Cyprus was fairly quiet at times when I was there a couple of years ago. Spectacular course, with 11 hairpin bends on the cart track between 9 & 10. Don't think things are too good financially over there & you might get a good all in price. You can stay in the hotel or in one of the apartments adjacent to the course.

Just the kind of advice I'm looking for thanks. As a bit of a golf trip novice (apart from a fantastic trip to play Belle Dune last summer) Cyprus would never have even occurred to me. We can only dump the kids for 4 night maximum I think so I can't look too far afield.

Any more?

If it's a short break, check out Marrakech or dubai, although if you're going there in the summer, maybe not! Holland has some nice courses, as does South Africa around Cape Town. They'd be pretty good weather wise, although the latter could be windy and chilly. Depends on budget, I guess.

+1 for aphrodite hills. Fantastic course with lots to do for the ladies too. I had my honeymoon there and managed 6 rounds.
Advice though, dont stay in villas along side the fairways. Having mowers going up and down the fairways at 4am is not relaxing
