I've got a bit of an informal experiment going on at the moment with a Pro V1.

I found it in September and have used it for every bounce round since. I wanted to see how long I can keep the thing and also whether it starts to deteriorate noticeably in performance.

It's now had 7 rounds, with average amount of whacks per round of 73. Approx 6 bunker shots thrown in there for good measure.

It's gone a bit beige, the Titleist logo is all but gone on one side and it is no longer smooth and glossy to the touch.

But, it doesn't seem to make a blind bit of difference to how it goes, I drove the ball really nicely on Saturday and kept it up with my playing partners all day.

Thru the summer, I usually put a new ball in play at the start of ever comp round - I think I'm going to stay with the same ball until it gets to scabby from next year on.

It's also got a Skoda logo on the side from a UK sales event at The Grove - if it's your's, send me your address and I'll post it back to you!! ;)

Interesting little experiment Darren, I'm surprised it isn't showing signs of deteriorating performance by now.

Obviously it would be mishapen in the hands of most other forummers by now what with being driven 350 yards on every tee shot and flying 180 yards with every PW shot

I'm guessing that all those 73's have just been lots of pars and the odd bogey, you know that Ernie Els says there is only 1 birdie in every golf ball? ;)

It'll be in play on Wednesday.

I'm fairly confident that I won't lose it in "Swinger's Pond", well, not from the tee shot anyway!!!! ;)

500 whack and its still working is pretty good!! surprised its lasted so well with people saying proV's chew up etc..

Love finding corporate branded balls, found a Weetabix one a while back and used it as a prize at an event i was at for the winner of the longest drive comp! obviously he must have eaten 3 that morning!

i think you are confusing wheatabix with Welwyn Gardens Cities Finest.... Shreaded Wheat;)

I find that Pro Vs sometimes get shredded by wedge shots, has this not occurred?

the longevity of my golf balls is dictated by how long it takes me to lose them!

Brand new Srixon Zstar yellow, reputedly one of the most durable premium balls on the market, one hit wonder - hooked tee shot into the muck on Saturday... Pulled an old found Titleist out the bag for my provisional, and didn't lose it for the rest of the round. Maybe it's a titleist thing...

Thats a pretty cool experiment, and nice passive brag about not losing a ball for 7 rounds ;)

I did something similar Rob' a month or so back.

Had the same Pro V1 in the bag for 6 rounds with no loss in performance (Obviously taking more hits too :D) . Only lost their colour and finish as you say.

I could argue I'm doing the same thing now with a Pro V1x

It's been in the bag for 4 rounds now and still going strong :D

Gareth

no point leaving it in the bag, you have to actually use it mate ;)

I prefer the opposite experiment, 7 balls in one round and every one of them still looks like new!!!!!

I think for the cost the pro v's are poor quality in comparison...

They fade and in my opinion mark quite easily...

Now the z stars seem to fair a whole lot better...keep their shine and don't seem to mark as easily and in my opinion are just as good a ball

I have just done the same thing, 5 rounds with a pro v1 (the new model) and 5 rounds with a srixon ad333. (It would have been longer but the srixon went missing in action during round 6). After 5 rounds each the pro v1 was in a much better condition than the srixon. Both balls were brand new when first used.
