I presently play with Srixon soft feel and I am looking for a ball that gives me reasonable distance but good spin/hold on the greens without the premium cost of the Pro V etc. Any recommendations gratefully received or shall I sticj with the Srixon?

Try the NXT tour- its a great ball and will fit all your criteria.

If not look at the srixon AD333 a superior ball to the soft feel which will give you more consistency around the green and greater distance. This is a much better ball than the one you're using currently in my opinion- but thats highly influenced by both my like of the 333's and my strong dislike of the soft feels, I think they are pretty poor balls.

Anyway both of these will be a good point to start your search with. Buy a sleeve of each and try them on the course.

Srixon Trispeeds are pretty good.

Any of the mid-range balls (NXT Tour/Burner TP/HX Hot etc etc will do the job.

Srixon Z-URS can be had for 20 quid at the moment and thats a decent ball too.

I agree with eaglehunter.

Titleist NXT Tour are great balls, good lenght off the tee and soft enough around the green to gibe good feel.

All this at a snip of the Pro V1 price.

It's all personal preference and what works for you - I have used Soft Feel but they are too soft and so you get no consisence in distance from them - they are designed for women really I think or people who 'tap' it....

NXT are like rocks in my eyes - stick with Pro V or Srixon ZURS thingy......

Used the AD333's for the first time last weekend and liked them a lot, good mix of distance and control. Really liked how they felt putting.

Personally I would wait untill the greens firm up and the weather is a little better. Anything will hold on the greens at the moment.

If you must though, Srixon Z-urs are on offer in AG at £19.99 they are the equivelent of the Prov1 and I dont think there is much between them.

If you can pick up last years model TP red cheap, they are good balls too.

Have you tried the 333's, to me they are just as soft as the soft feel, longer and spin better.

How did the winter review winners amongst us get on with the Nike platinums?

How do they rate?

When I get a chance to get on a golf course that's not:-
1. Completely sodden rendering the qulaity of the ball immaterial.
2. Under a few inches of snow
3. Rock hard due to frost.

So in about May I'll let you know!!!!!

guys i always buy pearl lake/used balls.
is there really much difference between these and new balls?

Absolutely, there will be no ball-to-ball consistency as they will have been in the drink for varying amounts of time and with balls, it is quite easy to chemically polish a turd, they can make even the most knackered looking ball that has been in water for a long time look pretty new apparently.

I think we have covered the pearl/lake ball topic before but in my view they are good for practice balls but lack the consistancy you would need for decent play. As others have said the length of time in the water will have an effect on their performance.

The Burner TP is pretty decent i have used a dozen in my trial phase and they worked pretty well until everything firmed up,

Its worth buying a sleeve of a few brands,Nevada Bobs prices are very good its cheaper to buy 4 sleeves of balls separate than to buy a box for example

Nike Plats where £6.99 a sleeve but £29.99 a box do the math its the same with most balls in there
