Morning all

Just curious to how people play when they visit a new course or play a weekend away day meet. I tend to find that I play a touch more 'sensible' or percentage golf when I visit a new course or somewhere I don't play too often.

I think for me when I'm playing as course I've played before or play often then I want to shoot a PB so I take a few 'risks' and it really is me vs the course. Whereas I treat the away days as a more social experience and would prefer to play safe and card a half decent score than risk a nightmare.

Tend to play the same. Have a plan for the hole and see what happens once I've hit it. If its just a bounce game with a few mates I might have a punt for greens on long par 4's or short par 5's but generally, hit it, find it and hit it again and then add it up at the end

how you play, and importantly how you think, is key part of you as a golfer - not to be switched on/off or tinkered with.

this doesn't mean you have to do the same thing everytime; but your inherent approach should be consistent.

I seem to play better at new courses, sometimes familiarity leads to lack of concentration and sometimes commitment to shots where there is trouble.

Play the same all the time, i'm not a massive one for taking on overly risky shots anyway so fairways and greens all day long, well thats the plan but tends to actually be rough, bunkers and 3 jabbing!

Depends what the away day is. If it is a competition, then I will play a bit safer unless going at the pin is on with no trouble. If it is just an "away day" with friends, I may tend to have a go. I played Celtic Manor Twenty-Ten in February, and went at the green in 2 on 18, when it was a bit out of range (the ball stayed dry though!) as well as the green in one on 15 (got to the hillside on the right).

Sometimes I will tend to be more conservative than I should be though, which can hold me back!

Did the same on 15th at Celtic but not from the tee, we all agreed to have a pop at it after we'd teed off.

*EDIT* I asked as this thread was Stickied for some reason, now it's un-stickied, mod with Sticky fingers:smirk:
