after another poor nights sleep on Saturday I was awake at about 4.30am yesterday morning so decided to head out for 18 holes.
I was standing on the first tee at 5.10am on a lovely sunny morning and proceeded to stroll around the course in 2hrs 45. I wasn't rushing as I need to get some practice in with my new wedges so on some holes I was hitting 5 or 6 balls from different distances.
after a bit of chipping and putting on the practice area I headed home and was sat in my garden with a coffee and croissant by 8.30 so still had a full day at home.

That's cool and a great time to play.
I was on the first tee with my 7 year old on Sunday at 6.30am he loved it.
I have also been out at 9pm and that's a good time too.

Is the club open for you to pay your fee? Or do you settle up when you get back in?

I would definitely do this if I could. I am up at 6 most weekends, but start getting washin done, ironing etc to save doing it later....

the main gates are open to let the green staff in but the club is shut so I settle up after the round. I get funny looks when I say to the pro at 8am "can I pay the round I have just finished"

Not an issue to those that are members, but most places I've played are willing to let you settle up on the way back in.

I can imagine it would!

I have heard of a course not too far from me that closes the shop/clubhouse at 5:30 of an evening. There are no gates/barriers etc to it, so anyone could walk on after 5:30 for nowt!

I too love the tranquility of an early morning round of golf although 5:30 is a little early for me. Usually tee off around half six at the weekends as a two ball and back home in time to make HID breakfast. Keeps everyone happy.

As a member I don't have to pay a green fee and it's a joy to go out at that time and play. Of course the club house is shut so you have to change in the car park but that aside happy times. I'm playing tomorrow around 6.30am myself

What's the rules on this if you're playing a tie? I know you can't play on course before a medal but my father and I are playing foursomes tie on Saturday and I can see it far enough. Would rather get a round in myself so might go up and play beforehand just want to make sure I ain't breaking rules?

Practising on the course before a matchplay tie is fine.

For a number of years I worked a shift that finished at 4am... For those few weeks, in the middle of summer, a few of us would high tail it to a local muni and be teeing off as soon as we were able to see far enough down the first fairway... Happy days :D...

Just make sure your not breaking club rules, no-one can go out before our comps on a Sunday, no matter what format they are playing.

We used to do this years ago on the local muni, before I joined a club.

5.00 start, 2 1/2 hour round, breaky on the way into work and "bouncing" into work full of the joys of spring.......

......but falling asleep at the desk at around 3.00 pm.;)

Got our 'dawn chorus' comp coming up end of the month. 6am shotgun start. Nothing better than getting home just in time for my mrs to cook me breakfast!

Was at Royal Ascot for 7.00am and first on the course and had the place to myself. Now I'm not sure if it was the sun shining (although the wind was ideal preparation for Hillside) and the tranqulity but I was +3 gross for the first 11 holes. 12-14 the wheels fell off big time and in the end I came home at +12 (level handicap) but hit the ball better than late

Aside from the good golf, the wildlife was out in abundance including roe and muntjac deer, jays, woodpeckers, parrots, rabbits and a few kites soaring. It was a perfect morning and I missed all the showers. Good times

Our swindle are always first out both on sat and Sunday meeting at 6:30 - close isn't open until 7 to allow the greenkeepers to finish preparing the course

The great thing about going out early is no-one on the golf course looks at you as if your mental because they are there to.
Love walking past people who are going to work though they all look at you as if you are a layabout and unemployed and lazy.
