Hi there, was wondering if someone could suggest good courses around the Preston area fo a little day trip from up here in the northest of north Lancs? Only one I've really heard of is Longridge but there must be some decent other ones. 2 for 1 acceptance would be an advantage. Thanks in advance. :)

Preston golf club is well worth a visit, very enjoyable course.

Chorley golf club although a little south of preston is also well worth a visit.

Not played it but penwortham is also meant to be a nice track.

Would avoid Fishwick hall, we played it in May last year and had gone down hill terribly.

Penwortham is a nice track.

Evita4 from here is a member and I've had a knock round it.

Don't know about the others but I would recommend a visit to Penwortham.

Preston and Penwortham are both fine courses although very different. As already stated Chorley is also worth playing. A little further afield (and a little more expensive) are Pleasington at Blackburn and the golf coast of Lytham to Formby.

He's like the candyman!

Say his name and he appears!

(If you say it three times you get a dose of the S****s!!)

Thanks for the quick replies!
Penwortham seems to get the most mentions so far so that may be the one - or is it just because Evita4 is a member there??
A bit forward I know but if any chance of a sign in then I could reciprocate at my course (Morecambe) and it gives me a chance to put faces to names.

Sorry to say i've played Garstang a couple of times - christ it's dull and rough around the edges (and the middle last time I played it). Thanks for the suggestion though.

You're right!

I live just down the road from preston. Preston GC is a nice course, but 15/20 mins further gets u to Fairhaven or St Annes Old Links. A little further the other way for Southport and the numerous courses there. Depends what ur after really.

Was thinking Preston because of time travelling, if I have to travel for an hour or more I always end up at Silloth! The courses around Southport, Lytham, St Annes always seem mighty expensive and surprise surprise they do not go in for the county card scheme!

Just checked county card site and the royals (Birkdale and Lytham) are on it as affiliated - does that mean they offer the discounted green fees offered through the scheme?

Splash, you are more than welcome for a sign in at Penwortham when the weather picks up a bit. PM me when you are free and I will try and accommodate.

Preston(Fulwood) is far superior to Penwortham. Also consider Ashton and Lea. Have a look at the site and if you are going with a mate consider a 4BBB Comp
However none mentioned are better than Lancaster . Consider Kirkby Lonsdale or a little further afield Ulverston

Evita - cheers will do that, looking forward to it (and hopefully showing you Morecambe as well)

3offtt - I was a member at Kirkby Lonsdale for a few years but got fed up with the poor condition of the course and the grumpy head pro - not the junior pros as they seemed fine (in fairness I heard it picked up last year but when I played in the open they had hollow tined and sanded the greens the day before????). I love Ulverston, so many great holes I'm thinking my way round at the mo! Lancaster is a good course with spectacular greens and I am lucky enough to play it a couple of times a year through member friends and local league although I do prefer my track - more interesting and equal condition infact last year Lancaster members were commenting how good the greens were. Could be because we got Ulverston's green keeper!
