As I live and play golf outside the UK I don't really know how the new smoking regulations will affect golfers. Presumably they'll still be able to smoke on the course but not in the clubhouse. What if the club is private? Can it make its own rules and allocate certain areas for smokers?
Do any of you anticipate problems?

In Scotland, You can smoke 'til your heart's content on the course, but not in the clubhouse I'm afraid. Smoking is banned in public, enclosed places, regardless if they are private clubs or not.(even bus shelters! believe it or not.)

I think the smoking ban is the best thing thats happened in Scotland, Being a reformed smoker there was nothing worse than sitting in your local boozer in a cloud of smoke.

Saying that sometimes after a bad game, I have been tempted to take it back up :D

In England it's becoming difficult to walk down the street in the evening as everyone is standing outside smoking!

I think that smoking should be banned on the course; especially with the hot summers we have been having recently. When our summer does eventually start this year if its anything like last year the courses will dry out rapidly. Playing at a heathland course a cigarette end can be very dangerous. With dry heather and burning ash fires can start immediately. Last year there were severe warnings to members. I'm my opinion smoking is disgusting and having smoke in you face when walking down the fairway is positively unpleasant.

I think that people talking rubbish should be banned. I think it's a disgusting habit and having to read it when you come on to your favourite golf forum is positively unpleasant.

I wish I played where you did! Is it some sort of wind-free vacuum? I can't get my cigarette lit in the wind at my course! You'll be moaning about the noise pollution from other people's drivers next.

Already got one, belgie. Failing that, if there's a strong breeze, I find it's best to set some of the non-smoking members alight employing the Ray Mears friction method. Can get my cigarette lit off the resulting flames with the side effect that it provides a bit of entertainment. The screams are very loud though so I always wear ear protection in order to follow government health and safety guidelines on these matters. We can't go harming ourselves now, can we?
