I have heard back from my 2 options and have 2 possible deals that we can go for:

Option 1 is Greetham Valley:

http://www.greethamvalley.co.uk/GolfInRutlandLeicestershireandLincolnshire-GreethamValley.html

They have proposed Saturday 20th August and will provide coffee and bacon rolls at 9.00 then have 4 tee times free at 10.02 on the Valley course, then soup and sandwiches followed by 18 holes on the Lakes course from 3.30. This will mean a late finish but this lot is at a decent price £38.00.

The other option is Rutland Water.

http://www.rutlandwatergolfcourse.co.uk/

They offer 9 holes on the par 3 course, coffee and bacon rolls followed by 18 holes on the full course. This will cost £33.00 (may be able to work on that considering the offer from Greetham but no promises). They have put forward Sunday 7th August but can do other weekends.

I have also put in a cannot do Weekends option as they are better for me but not for everyone and I have to take a day off then so be it.

There is only one way to decide this......VOTE

cant do either date proposed so am a "midweek only", if it was down to the 2 options on diff dates and/or midweek I would prefer Rutland to Greetham

gl in finding the best option!

if it's a Saturday then no problem

I've played Greetham, both courses, on a 36 before. not too many hold ups if I remember correctly.

Not played Rutland, so up for that too

By way of an update, Greetham Valley have given me until Monday to take them up on the tee times. Rutland Water are more flexible. Greetham will require a £10.00 deposit.

The advantage of Greetham is also that it is within a mile of the A1 turning and easy to get to. Rutland Water is in the middle of Rutland and about 15 minutes from the A1 depending on where you are coming from.

I will finalise the options and post a new thread for definites tomorrow with a view to getting some more solid numbers over and after the weekend.

Also, if anyone is thinking of staying in the area overnight and fancies a round at Stoke Rochford the next day, I am happy to sign people in. Think it costs £16 as a members guest.

The date is now set, to give everyone time I have put the date as Saturday 20th August. Both venues can fit us in on that date.

The final details on the two deals are now in. Both are for Saturday 20th August.

Rutland Water
Bacon Roll and Coffee. 9 hole par 3 course first tee time at 11.30 then 18 holes on the full course first tee time at 1.30. Total cost will be £33.00.
Rutland Water is the more relaxed course, par 3 is not all short holes and can probably use up to a 4 iron off the tee. The main course is good fun with some great views over the water. Back 9 is in better nick than the front and is more interesting mainly due to it only having been built 5 or 6 years ago. The course is pay and play so and the condition can vary depending on foot traffic and weather. Does have some interesting holes, couple of very long par 5s and some risk/reward par 3 holes. There is a driving range, practice ground, chipping area and putting green for warming up.

Greetham Valley
This is for 36 holes, 18 on the Lakes Course and 18 on The Valley course. The price is for coffee and bacon rolls at 9.00, 4 tee times starting at 10.02 on the Valley Course, Soup or Chips and Sandwiches at 2.30 then 18 holes on the Lakes course starting at 3.30. We will be behind a club match for the second round but as we will be ideally in 4 balls then this should not be a hold up. The cost will be £38.00.

The advantage is an easy to get to venue, 36 holes and 2 meals. For the experience and course quality think Belton Woods if anyone has been there. Good nick normally, some interesting holes, few bland ones bit more expensive for food and drink. Value wise, the offer on the table seems pretty good and the course is very easy to get to (about an hour for those coming down from Grimsby, hour and a half from the West Midlands and about the same from London or Essex. Get on the A1, get off at Greetham, turn left into the golf club). DOwn side is that we will be chased in by the sun with the last groups coming off the course near 8.00.

So there we go, date is set, times are set just need to finalise the venue.

Damm - we have a big shutdown at work and all hands need to be available that day - holidays were not even signed off for the week and weekend so no getting out of it.

Looks like a great day ...enjoy

Good Stuff, I am just waiting for a reply from a bit of a wildcard option (Stapleford Park) as you never know where a deal can be found. If I do not hear by tonight I will post up the final details and get definites.
