I'm trying to gauge approximately how long everyone's gokart lead acid batteries seem to last them?
Is 1-2 years a fair time to assume? I understand there are a wide range of factors but I'm trying to decide if an electric trolley is worth the potential cost a battery every year...

My battery has been going strong for about 3 years I think maybe more.

My first one lasted about 3 years including a fair few rounds over 27 or 36 holes (it was an 18 hole battery). Second one about three years old and going strong although I have been using a Motocaddy recently which has helped. However put the hedgehogs back on my GK for winter golf and it's dealing fine with the heavy going

I bought 2x 18 hole batteries with mine as I play a lot of 36 hole events, both are still going strong after 5 years although I tend to alternate them for normal 18 hole play.

Mine lasted around 18 months, which i think is pretty poor. To me a battery should last around three to five years. Just unlucky I think.

Mine have been pretty bad. I think I have gotten through 3 batteries in 4/5 years even though I store and charge them exactly as instructed.

The 3rd one has recently stopped lasting a whole round and it has gotten me to the point where I have given up on my Go Kart completely and gone back to a push trolley. The GK is sitting in the garage and can stay there.

Not good. Did you feed this back to GK?

Out of interest, how has using a Motocaddy instead helped battery life?

I've had my battery for 3 years but it is a third party one I had for another trolley. When I got the gokart I just fitted it into the cradle and saved a few quid.

I'd certainly expect a Lead Acid battery being used twice a week on average and being properly cycled to last 2+ years.

Simply because I haven't used the GK so much and so the battery isn't being used all the time. Using the GK for winter golf as I've got the hedgehog wheels my course insists on and didn't want to fork out for the MC version

Ahhh makes sense now.

Did you find any of the battery saving claims about the hedgehogs to be true when you used them?

Thanks for the info guys, sounds promising that I should expect 3 years from it.
It's typical though that as soon as I posted this thread Direct Golf removed the 20% off promotion they had running! I should have just bought it anyway :(

Oh... that's a pain:confused:

Not really. TBH not overly convinced that hedgehogs wheels are beneficial either. Seems to split opinion but that's what the club insist on and assume thats the advice they have from the greenkeeper. Other clubs locally not invoking a similar policy

Mine lasted 15 months before it started only doing around 11 holes on a flat, links course. I have always cared for the battery as instructed so not overly happy tbh. Have contacted GK via email and on phone but as out of warranty I have nowhere to go unfortunately. Mine too is now sitting in the boot of my car, un-used. :(
