Anybody play without a fairway wood? Can't remember the last time I used mine on course, don't use it off the tee as confident with the driver, and never really use it off the deck much as not confident. My course doesn't really call for it, on the par 5's where I put the ball off the tee I'm usually on a down slope or side slope so not really an ideal lie for a fw anyway. fwiw on a flush hit it's 20 yards further than my hybrid

i hit my driver better than fairway woods so i rarely use them off the tee. maybe if I'm going to run out of room or hazards are in play. i never take one off the deck as i found it was costing me more shots than i was gaining.

so your not lone

A few of the courses I play regularly have very tight, tree lined fairways. One of these courses is also short, filled with lots of trees, brooks and bunkers so using a driver, with me not being as consistent with it, usually means these hazards are bought into play.

There are a few holes I can think of where you are able to open the shoulders up and let rip with a driver but I would certainly opt for a fairway wood most of the time!

I just picked up a 14 degree 3 wood. My course is on the coast and a lot of wind comes off the left shoulder. With my fade shot shape it can push the ball OOB so I use it to have a bit more control. Some holes are massive doglegs as well and driver is a bit too much so I use it there as well. Can also hit from deck if needed but needs to be perfect lie

I haven't hit one all summer. Had a covert 5 wood which I sold. Tried the aeroburner to match mini driver and couldn't get it going for toffee.

Due to the ag deals thiugh I now have the 3 and 5 wood to match my driver (917) and will be working on them over winter. Could get the mini driver going from the deck so hopefully woods should be ok now. .... shouldn't they?

Use mine all of the time.

When a Driver is too long off the tee I downgrade to 3 or 5 W

And going for Par 5s in 2 it's an absolute must have.

I use mine quite a bit. Murcar has a few par 4's where a driver brings some card crippling danger into to play. Also use it on a couple of long par 4's or par 5's for the second shot.

I don't miss the fairway off the tee with it. I really could do with spending some time measuring it like-for-like with the driver as it goes a long way.

I only started using one last season, rarely use it off the tee (just when I worry I'll run out of fairway on a dogleg for example) and while off the deck I would opt for the hybrid most of the time sometimes you find yourself needing that extra bit of length and it's worth taking on. I might only reach for it once a round but now if I didn't have it in the bag I think I'd be doing myself out of a good, if high tarrif option. I don't need another wedge or hybrid anyway!

Have fun with those, what I've found is that they offer similar distances (on average) but while the hybrid is more consistent, the wood is just capable of going further when pured. Moreover they offer totally different trajectories and that's what I like, the hybrid soars while the wood is a lower penetrating flight, so each has their merits depending on the wind and what's in front of the green.

Never have a fairway or hybrid in the bag now. Just the driver then 2 iron up. Pretty big gap but have just never got on with fairways - much more confident of hitting driver straight.

Don't use driver or 3-wood at the moment due to swing issues so use my 17* hybrid, get about 200-210yds with it and straight (barring the odd duff shot) gonna give the ole 3-wood a go again next time I'm out though...

I haven't had a wood for over a year now 😂. I wasn't using it so sold it. I have driver which I get on really well with and a 3 iron that knocks it off the tee for accuracy or lay up on par 5's. I'm convinced it's helped to improve my scores.

Use it a lot off the deck and for position off the tee.

Shaft ensures it launches low off the deck so a great bullet club for par 5s and longer shots into the wind. Never been able to hit a driver off the deck and the hybrid launches too high for the shots I use my 3 wood for.

I have a driver, 3W and 5W set up and this is ideal for me. I use the 3W off the tees on some holes and the 5W comes into its own on soem of our long par 3's and on the par fives. I have the G25's so they are really easy to hit
