Hi all.

I'm pretty new to golf. I currently have a 28 hcp. On Tuesday I hit my PB round of 100, then had a round tonight and I hit 116. Any ideas why, or is this just something that happens when you're first starting out?

That bit in bold in a nutshell. We all keep trying to master it but it doesn't happen it always will come back bite you! Just enjoy the good days and when the bad ones happen don't let them drag you down.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I don't let it get me down.its just annoying really knowing I can hit the shots I need but just can't at that moment.

It's what keeps us playing never knowing what the day will bring everybody is more than capable of
Shooting 16 shots different from day to day, I can do it from morning to afternoon even!
Its not only when starting out it will always be the same we're human after all. :)
Don't fret more forward remember the good shots and forget the bad ones.

It's one of those things that happens all the time. I was feeling good about our (nett) CC this year. Playing off 20, I'd been coming consistently in around 90 and was threatening on a good day to knock a few shots off that. I shot 112 and 103 to come in dead last (of those that finished).

Just keep at it, ups & downs are all part of the torture!!!!

If it helps, I shot 15 over yesterday - my worst score this century!!!

Having a round with friends or by myself I was regularly shooing no worse then 94. Often breaking 90. Finally got round to playing some of the comps this year and have struggled to break 100 since. Makes the blood boil but I think there the rounds that keep me coming back, Knowing the game is in there somewhere. Had my 1st lesson in over a year last week and its looking much better.

Thats good advice, thanks.

Good to know im potentially in for a lot more frustration

It happens. A PB raises expectations and often things like course management that got you the score go out the window. You try harder, swing harder and make poor decisions. It is what makes golf such a uniquely frustrating golf but what keeps us coming back every time

I wouldn't worry about your medal score for the time being. focus on building good stableford scores. this allows you to quickly forget about the bad holes.

you will never run up big silly numbers like a 10 on the par 4 4th. a hole like this will fester in the mind and ruin the rest of the round.

once you blank the hole, pick up and move on to the next hole. a blob is a blob, move on.

Hi snell,
After getting close to 100 for several games I finally broke it (96) in July and couldn't wait to play in the weekly Saturday comp.
I then shot 120+ and went home in despair.
Before breaking the ton I would have dreaded returning after that score.
This time I couldn't wait to get back out and Ive broken the ton since.
I was chatting to my pro and he said "That's golf. It's the one great shot that'll bring you back yet you'll never be satisfied".

Get back out there and break that 100 or, as John Wayne said "Snell, get back on your horse and drink your milk!"

16 strokes difference isn't that many, all things considered. You'll see pros on the PGA tour shooting 10 of a difference on back to back days.

Consistency will come (and go) with time :)

You still beat me by a couple though mate
Funny how you can go from feeling confident with most clubs on one hole to wild slices/shanks on the next three and feeling totally lost with what you are doing.

IT was a close game mate. Just pipped on the final hole. Yeah its mad like. I went from parring one hole to a double bogey at the next!

Thanks for your words of support everyone. Ill get straight back on the horse :D
