I brought a set of titleist 714 ap2 irons and since getting them my game has gone downhill, when i was getting fitted for them all the numbers where better than my old irons but now gaming them i can't get the longer irons from 7 and up no where near my old irons in both distance and accuracy.

Do i just cut my loss and sell them or persist with them?

Stick with them and practice over the winter. You often take a wee while to get used to new irons even if custom fitted.

Really? Sounds like a pretty awful custom fit if thats the case!

Not really fundy.
I think what you'll find with some people when they are custom fitted is that they subconsciously relax with their new irons, thinking that they have now found "the answer".
Something changes in either their set up, or their rhythm, (or both), and for a while they don't hit the ball the same way they were with their old irons, or how they were hitting it before the fitting.
It's nothing to do with the fitting being wrong, and please note that I emphasized the word "some".
I know this certainly happened to me when I was fitted for a set of Mizunos some years ago.
I'd personally stick with them for a while longer. With the onset of the wetter winter conditions it's not the best time to be hitting new clubs. You have got to pick the ball up so cleanly now that any fault at impact, especially with irons, is going to be penalised more than usual.
And the other problem you have with fitted irons is trying to sell them on. You have got to find somebody else who wanted the exact same specification as yourself.
Much easier to sell a set of "standard" irons.

If you have been playing less than a year I'd stick with them a bit longer and give yourself a chance to see if they are right for you as your swing and game develop. I've been playing 40 years and I have periods where I can't hit a thing like I ought to and it has nothing to do with the clubs. :)

My issue that it was not a full customer fit they where off the shelf but just the lie changed, it makes me think i should have got a custom fit and not just brought the clubs in the sale

AP2s are aimed at decent handicap players and the AP1s are aimed more at mid to high handicappers. Yes it is not a hard and fast rule, but it's a good guide. As you've only been playing since the start of the year I'm assuming you will need as much forgiveness as you can get? So it may be the case that the AP2s are possibly not giving you the maximum forgiveness you may need on the majority of shots? The fact you say you struggle with the long irons where most golfers need as much help as possible would back that up to me.

Also it may be the case that the lofts are not cranked as much on the AP2s as they were on your old irons, which will effect distance. But I would not worry that much about distance comparisons as you may well not be comparing apples with apples. Accuracy is much more important really.

If you do start looking at other irons, as I always say, for forgiveness you can't go wrong with the ping G range.
