Today was the second round of the Beds/Cambs Winter Pro Am season and we were very lucky to be able to play Gog Magog

Every about the clubhouse just says warmth and welcome

Staff were very friendly - the pro was very helpful and has managed to get me a pair of trousers that I had been searching - very friendly lady , the starters was a very helpful bloke

We played the old course which starts off with a very tough uphill par 4 with some very well placed bunkers - fairways and greens were imaculate - especially after the recent rain , must drain brilliantly.

Greens were very receptive but still quick and run true all day. It had one temp hole in place which was ok

All the hole presented a challenge with punishing fairway bunkers and thick rough but rewarded brave shots

The par 5's were tough but the the par 3's all tested your ability

Certainly needed to put the ball in the right place on the green - lots of subtle and not so subtle breaks

Would highly recommend the course for anyone to play - very impressed

Only problem is the traffic around Cambridge is shocking

The best for me was going round in 72 ! Chuffed to score that on an unfamiliar course

I love Gogs and wished we lived nearer as I'd break my no joining fee rule to be a member there! Quality course and always made to feel very welcome there. Had some lessons with the pro Emma when starting my golf journey but the trip to and from just too much of a drag.

I seriously considered joining here when I lived in St Neots but opted for JOG instead. Must get round to playing it sometime.

I'm glad he got you some trousers after seeing you in shorts recently!!

Good score Phil!

"She" :D

Might get the shorts out for RCP - should be a lovely warm breeze

Was chuffed with the score and could have been level bar two three putts on the first two greens !!doh

Perhaps you should have stayed home and worked on your spelling and grammer.:D

Only joking mines just as bad.

Glad to see your playing well I don't want to be carrying you,not the way im playing.:fore:

We will just have a laugh mate

emma the asst pro is top drawer, always smiling and a good teacher as well

the land is chalk based so drains very well all year round. Last winter the courses were closed for two hours.........

the temp hole is because the bunkers on 9 are being redesigned, I've not had the chance to play the temp hole yet, I'm led to believe it was one of the original 9 holes from when the course was originally designed in 1901, looks like decent par 3

glad you enjoyed it, it's certainly in great condition

Loved it mate - set up very well and encourages good scoring

The temp was ok - tough tee shot and just needed to take it for what it is - didn't take anything away from the course

I managed to birdie SI 1 and 2 and was quite surprised they were those SI and both reachable par 5's

Played the Gog's last year after not playing there for ages, as you say it's a really lovely club in all respects.

Good score from you as well.

The pro scores were strange - you had 4 guys at level or under - 3 under won it

But then a lot more at 4 over and more - couple in the mid 80's

I am guessing there were a few assistant pro's playing and it goes to show everyone has good/bad days

Yeah there was a couple there but also a lot of the guys that have been in the area a while

No surprise to see who the top two were though

I'll be there on the 10th at JOG as well

Next year there is Bury St Edmonds and St Ives as well
