The Masters is a great showcase event but each year I lose a little of my love for it through stories like this.

As I see it, some things are a great tradition but when these traditions are enforced as they are at the Masters (insisting that commentators say patrons rather than fans but for instance) then they're no longer a tradition but just plain bullying in an attempt to create a mystique around the event.

It's almost become like a separate state such as Vatican City with its own laws etc.

You really do get the feeling that the Augusta National would far rather that the masters could be held behind closed doors with no TV coverage etc.
