Following on from Surrey's example, who do we have from the poorly defined Cambs, Beds, Herts area that are up for a forum meet? (it's neither East Anglia nor East Midlands nor South East)

I'm in St Neots and I know that minty18 is nearby; we're members of adjacent clubs and plan to play each others.

Working on a 25 - 30 mile radius (of me) we're looking at roughly Peterborough, Northampton, Bedford, Stevenage and Cambridge, though not exclusively.

Don't expect to get this off the ground before mid-April at the very earliest, so if your game is off there's time to fix it.

Suggestions for venues are needed!

viscount,

Slightly OT but whats that golf course near you where you have a dogleg right par 5 opener over a lake and a big stretch of trees? I think it's about a 200 yard carry? Played there with a pal from St Neots years ago and shot 74. It was great fun :)

Glad to see a meet is going to be arranged, I didn't realise there were people so close! Im in Cambridge and would certainly be up for it, just depends what ive got on on the particular day. Sounds good though. Any ideas on courses to play?

As you know viscount i'm just around the corner from you and would be more than happy to be involved!

We could play John O'Gaunt if we play on a weekday, its featured in Aprils GM so take a look. If not I'm happy to travel to a course thats easy for us all to get to.

I apologise in advance to the rest of my fourball for my over excitement when I land a warbird on the green, its usually a little dance and maybe even the odd high five.

23 - that's my local, Wyboston Lakes - if you put in the co-ordinates in my signature on Google Earth, Multimap etc it should take you there. Quite a few ground changes recently so some of it will play as a new course.

minty - I believe John O'Gaunt has two tracks, which will be useful, but never realised it was open to us mortals - I believe the club fees are horrendous and joining an art form. Could be a good bet.

I thought it was exclusive to members as well mate but Golf Monthly says otherwise and I believe everything I read in GM, thats why I've had a bet on Oscar Sharpe to win a major!

I hope to have my handicap down to 24/25 by then lads cause i've got the feeling i may be labelled a bandit if my swing continues at this tempo.

Checked out John O'Gaunt's site today. Green Fees are £35/round weekday (£50 day) and weekend (£60 day). They have two tracks, John O'G (which I am informed is the one to play) and the Cartagena. They work an odd/even day and am/pm cycle for playing these courses (2-balls on one, three and four on the other). Handicap certificates are mandatory.

Any other suggestions of courses that you have played or want to play in the area are welcome.

those green fees seem reasonable enough, I only know one guy who has played the john o'groats course and he speeks very highly of it. Has anybody else played the Gogs in Cambridge?

I have just joined the gogs as a junior member and therfore think very highly of it, two 18 hole courses and both are brilliant.
I can't believe you're a junior, eaglehunter. Congratulations on your spelling and punctuation. Wish I was starting out on the golf road like you. Enjoy it, you've got lots to look forward to.

eagle, I would guess from this that travel may be an issue for you as would be when we play?

Given that we are still looking someway ahead, and that GB may be with a new employer, what limitations on availability do you have to consider.

For me, not Sunday.

travel wouldn't neccesarily be an issue, I could get someone to take me depeding on distance. My only trouble is weekdays up until june really due to schools and GCSE's etc. But thinking about it further it may be best if you don't include me in arangements as availibility would most likely be an issue whatever, I will wait tell I can drive (not long now) and look to join in with another meet then. I don't want to make the arrangements harder, so organise it without me in mind, there will always be another time.
