Just a observation and opinion really....Could GMac have done anymore product placement in the 'Ballentines' sponsered article in this months mag????

After being pictured with the bottle, holding a glass of it and sitting at the sponsered bar I thought he'd missed a marketing oppourtunity on his right hand collar and sleeve, and maybe follow womens beach volleyball with something tasteful across his ass???....maybe 'Preperation H' might fork out a few quid for that??

Shame really because it managed to disguise an interesting informative article as a whiskey promotion!

I think "Advertorial" is the word you're looking for for this sort of piece.

Nothing new, it's been going on for ages. just look at any of the lessons pages from any of the golf mags, they are nothing more than product placement. But if that's what keeps the mags alive and keeps us fed with a constant monthly drip of nice colourful magazines, then, I suppose I can live with it.

Can anyone remember the old days when the teaching pieces were line drawings with text down the side.

Any sort of "leisure interest" magazine is ripe for this approach nowadays, keeps the price down no doubt.

PS do you think GM would be puting resources into this Forum if there was no useful impact on their business via advertising or direct sales of subscription. Jings, I even took out a Rugby World sub for my nephew's Christmas due to an advert on here. :D

G mac is always the same. He must be the sponsors dream as he always promotes them at every chance.

The worst for me is when the winner is presented in a formal sports jacket like Augusta or Hilton Head and they insist on wearing a golf cap with it - just looks plain ridiculous, like wearing tracky bottoms with a pair of brogues!

McDowell seems to be having a bit of a mare at Augusta, 3rd last on +4 after 9. Looks like he'll be needing some Scotch after today! :o

One of his previous ramblings appeared to be straight out of a travel brochure!! It was Dubai if I recall correctly.

I bet he got paid handsomely by the government of Dubai and by GM.

If I was the Editor I'd have sent it straight back and asked for something more pertinant to life on tour/ being a pro golfer.

I can understand them wearing the branded stuff in photo opps, but agree that when they use their monthly piece to push a sponsor it's taking the pi$$.

I remember a piece by Darren Clarke last year sometime, the entire piece was devoted to his sponsors and how great they were. It was practically a begging letter to them not to drop him as he'd been playing so badly imho

I am a a little disappointed in some of the GMAC stuff and though there would have been a greater insight into life ont he tour with perhaps more snippets of pre-round warm up, how they spend their evenings etc. It did spoil a good article

I suppose we need to look at it from the sponsors side of things. They pay out a heck of a lot of money just to have a famous sportsman wear their brand. They need to get their monies worth at every opportunity.Let's be honest if you are getting the kind of money that Gmac would be raking in for promoting his sponsor you'd do the same.Heck for 1/2 a million I'd have Ballantynes tattooed on my Ar7e

I dont really take any notice of what these guys wear. If still wouldnt make me want to but the stuff. I'm not just talking whiskey here either.

If GMac was playing with the latest clubs and played 10 under ever round, does that mean they would work fo me? DONT THINK SO.

Didn't bother me as his sponsors looked after me like I was a King at Loch Lomond last year after I won a GM comp...4 days of free drink, free food, free food and more free drink, there was even a clinic/lesson from Gmac himself thrown in!! :D

Homer, if they told all how they spent their evenings there'd be a lot more battered husbands! (seems to improve the golf though so maybe they should risk it.)

just caught GMac at Augusta - side view - he's got more overhang than me, so g knows what he;s been doing over the winter. no wonder his game is a bit off.
