In the Christmas gifts section this edition, there's a list of things that we shouldn't be seen dead buying.

Having just spent quite a while trying to locate a nice leather one for myself, I was quite surprised to see the scorecard holder on this list.

Whilst I agree, that the horrible plastic "Masters" scorecard holder shown in the mag is bloody awful, I can't believe that a smart leather holder that keeps your card, stroke saver and pencil, compact and easily accessible from your back pocket, is a bad thing to have .

Going to carry mine with pride :p

:D

I guess it depends how long I hold it out in the rain.On geeky note, leather can be waxed or chemically waterproofed, not too worried about that.

Was really getting at why a scorcard holder was something not to have? Personally think it's a useful item.

Card holders are a necessity.
If you play golf in the summer over the course of 3 or 4 hours you sweat. If the card is in your back pocket which is where 99% of golfers carry it it can get damp from sweat and the lead or ink used to mark your scores runs and smears.
For the sake of your partner who's marking for you you should keep the card dry and neat in a holder.
It's ungentlemanly not to.
Some of the cards I've been handed back with my score on have been unpleasant...and not just for the score!!!

Jesus birdieman what a sweaty jinker you must have if it ruins the card!
I used a noodle ice yellow ball yesterday so I could see my ball against the huge frost we had but using a scorecard holder as well would have been just a pointless gimmick to far!

Dodger, if we get another summer like 2006 where you play 36 holes in 34 degrees of heat, it doesn't matter who you are, you will sweat. Seriously some cards others have marked for me have been in a right state!

Nothing wrong with a card holder. Keeps the pencil fine and handy and they usually have the stroke difference charts for matchplay on the back too! ;)

Can someone please e-mail this list to my mother....bless her, she always goes to M&S and buys useless golf gadgets for me.

I was a bit shocked to see it in there, I have asked for a nice leather one form Santa, they are an essential bit of kit.

I think you might have all missed the point of this particular dig. A scorecard holder is a perfectly acceptable piece of kit if you want one.

Just look closer at the particular scorecard holder in question on the picture...

I keep my card in my outside pocket of my bag and use a sharpie twin tip ;) they are the way forward.

How am I supposed to fill in my scorecard whilst standing on the green if it's 40 yards away in my golf bag? ;)

....BM runs for cover! :o
