GM Team to play PING at Walton Heath GC, April 7 2010.

Afternoon all

I am pleased to announce below the GM Team to take on PING at Walton Heath GC, April 7 2010.

With over 80 forumers putting themselves forward it was really hard to whittle it down to just six lucky names.

In the end we went for a range of handicaps (pretty much all the PING team are single figures) and a rather clichéd blend of youth and experience!

I was keen the team was made up of people who have contributed a lot to the forum and have been integral to making the forum what it is – a vibrant place to come and discuss golf and life!

I noted comments on fellow forumers made in the ‘poster of the year’ thread and even received one very heart warming email nominating two fellow forumers for spots on the team because of how they had gone out of their way to firstly welcome him into the fold and subsequently encourage him to really get back into the game after a significant period away from golf.

I also took into account if applicants had been already selected for big tests etc or have been drawn out of the hat and won significant competitions.

I do hope no one is too downhearted about missing out. I can assure you it was nothing personal! The only person who I feel deserves a public explanation for not being selected was bobmac who would have almost certainly made the team but as he is a club pro and I wanted to keep this to amateur club golfers he didn’t get the final nod.

I’m confident there will be other opportunities like this in the future. PING specifically asked us to recruit from the forum because they know what a great community of die-hard golfers the GM forum is and they are not the only company who have that view.

I trust those selected can count on the support of their fellow forumers in the run up to April. We plan to do some special coverage in the build up to and after the match.

I can't argue with that line up and the reasons for their selection , every one a worthy member .I'm sure you will all have a great day :D enjoy.

In a way i'm glad i didn't make it as the wife booked a holiday for Kenya yesterday , departing 7th April so i would have been gutted to have had to turn it down

I think the Jammy bit holds some truth in this case mate.. ;)

I havn't stopped smiling since I got the email to say I was picked. The missus has already decided we're staying the night before and she can go off to Hampton Court Palace while I have my boys fun.

Yip. Looks like a good team to me, although, as DCB says, you're gonna be called every name under the sun by the Ping lads, Mike, for playing TonyN off 19 when we all know it's secretly 12.
