Afternoon all,
A couple of little polls this month to gauge which type of course is most popular among our forumers and how much golf you all play in the winter relative to the summer.
Thanks for voting!

I'll play once or twice at the weekend rather than twice and a sneaky mid-week knock during the summer. I'm pretty resilient as far as the weather goes. So long as it's not a torrential downpour, I'll go out.

A beautiful summer's day? I'll be off to the links. :)

I'm putting my clubs away on 1st November and not looking at them again until April next year(maybe). I need along break.
One of my favourite memories of golfing on a beautiful summers day was playing high up on the cliffs at Stonehaven. With a massive blue sky above me and a massive blue sea below. Magical

I tend to play more in the winter as our Sat competitions are reduced to 9 holes, Sundays in the winter are our own club societies 18 holes competitions. I find playing in ice a nightmare but don't treat it like ordinary golf so it does stay interesting.

I put "As much as the weather allows" but i will do the same amount of hours just alot more range work I guess.

And "park land" i love the green green grass and trees on a sunny day in the middle of no where.

whats the prize by the way? a sunny day??

A lot less. My local course turns into a muddy mess and the winter greens are awful; little more than a hole dug in long fairway grass. Putting just isn't possible.

Parkland. By far my favourite style of course. I love the majesty of tree lined holes with plenty of water.

Re: GM polls: where would you rather be & how much winter golf do you play

Course open = golf......sun, rain, sleet, hail, snow, wind....whatever.... :D

Only thing I'll do differently this winter is not enter as many medals when the ground is frozen solid. I went up 0.5 last winter because I stupidly entered some medals even when scoring was nigh on impossible. :o
I even won one medal with an N/R as I was the only idiot that had entered, (my marker didn't enter the medal)....... :o

I'll only play if its dry and reasonably bright, - just cant stand playing in layers and freezin to death, to winter greens etc etc .

As for where, well, it would be Parkland for me, give me Wentworth, Woburn or somewhere like, rather than St Andrews or Carnoustie.
Might not be the Purists choice, but to me, its just more pleasant to walk round.
*Simples*

Will hardly touch my clubs during the winter months. Wrapped up in three jumpers, waterproofs on, bobble hat, freezing cold and soaking wet tends to take some of the enjoyment away for me. Add either temporary or frozen greens to the equation and the telly takes on a whole new appeal.
But if it's a really nice day and a few of the lads are playing I can get tempted out.
Will tend to play either heathland or links courses during the "wetter" months. The ground drains better and they are normally on proper greens.
Nothing worse than coming home with mud up to your crutch

about 3rd less.

Normally sneak out for a few holes in the evening though the summer a couple of times mid week, as it much lighter up here and can still go out at 9o'clock up till a few weeks ago.Plus a at least on comp at the weekend.

Winter down to just 18 holes at Tain. The course is usually in pretty good nick most of the winter. It's a links course after all. Don't play my local course at all though the winter (Parkland)
