Morning all

I realise only subscribers and early birds will have got the July issue but I'm keen to get a bit of feedback on the the giveaways

Sharpie Pen
A free pen for everyone.
Did you think this was a good freebie?
Better, or not as good as a supplement (eg irons, driving, equipment ones we have done so far this year)?

R&A DVD
There was a free copy for every subscriber. Have any of you watched it yet? What do you think

Non-subscribers - You can get a copy free too, just follow the link to the R&A website http://www.randa.org/dvdoffer

All comments greatly appreciated, it really helps us decide what we try to do next year with out giveawways.

Play well and enjoy the weather if you're teeing it up this weekend...and spare a thought for me. I'm off to Ikea this morning and tomorrow putting together all the stuff Mrs H buys. Oh Joy

Morning Mike
I thought the Sharpie pen was a good idea. I don't normally put identification marks on my balls but this freebie will most probably see me getting a little artistic at sometime over the coming weeks... so for me, it's a useful and much appreciated "gift".
The DVD was also a nice touch. I've shown my lad, (who's just starting out in this wonderful game), the section on etiquette and feel that this will give him a good understanding of the good manners and courtesy that we should come to give, and expect, on the course.
So all in all, a couple of very useful extras.

Sharpie is great.
I got bought some cheapy markers and the ink just came off. The sharpie looks like it will be on there for ever!!
Better than a supplement I think. maybe the supplement info can be incorporated into the mag inplace of the pages of travel info that I just skip through coz I'm not going anywhere!
Good Luck Mike - I'm tidying the house! HID and the Boy have been at her Mum's all week and the place is a tip! Ah those batchelor days.......

The free Sharpie is a great idea and will probably lead to people who dont I.D. their ball starting to do so.

I would like to see a free pitch mark repairer and perhaps a ball marker in future and as I have mentioned a couple of times before ... a bag tag.

The Mrs. got me a subscription for my birthday early May and the lolly came out the bank but as yet NO mag and NO dvd. Any idea when it will arrive as I have nipped out and bought this months mag and if it arrives next week I have a doubler.

As for this weekend, I am painting and building units as well Mike. I really should be the ALPHA MALE in my house !!!!!!!!!

Andy
it takes about 6 weeks to activate a new subscription so I'm guessing if you havent't had this new issue through then yours will start with the next issue which is the August one
Getting the DVD with the mag was a subscriber only benefit - but just follow that link above, fill in your details and and you'll get sent one free of charge
Thanks also for the suggestions on the ballmarker etc - will look into costings on that

Ian
Thanks for the feedback. I'd love to be able to just incorporate those extra 36 pages into the mag and then do extra gifts but the costs juts don't stack up. I know the overseas travel pages aren't everyone's cup of team but to be very open and honest about it they are comercially very important for us. If we didn't do them then no overseas destinations would advertise with us. That lost revenue would then massively impact upon my budgets and ability to be able to produce a decent mag and offer free gifts like the supplements and the Sharpie pens - Bit of a catch 22 trade-off!

Right. I'm off to do battle at Ikea Croydon!

The Sharpie pen was excellent, I brought 1 a couple of months ago, now I've got 2! As well as marking your ball, does anyone use a marker on their scorecard instead of a pencil.

Not watched the DVD yet, when I get a couple of minutes I will though.

Mike - I agree with the comments so far, Sharpie was a great idea and much more use to me than a 30-page special on irons etc. I do read the supplement, but as soon as I finish it, it gets binned. The Sharpie is very useful and has had a couple of outings already and will stay in the bag til it dries up. I also agree with Madandra about the ball marker/repairer type pf gift, again a very useful freebie. I suppose to me:

Sharpie/Ball marker/Repairer = useful and lasting

Equipment/Clothing Supplements = interesting but not that useful

As for the DVD, I think it's great! The etiquette section especially. Is there any way I can link to a copy of it from our Society webpage? This would be really useful!

No comment on the gifts as I haven't seen them, just can't comprehend why some don't put identifiers on their ball?? No probs in a friendly but any comp, you just have to or you can leave yourself wide open to all sorts of accusations!!

So, on reflection, if it makes people start marking their balls then the SHarpie is a fantastic freebie.

I got the dvd in my mag :D
but no sharpie :(
Was looking forward to it as well , having just joined a club i was thinking it was about time i started marking my ball. Hey ho

Great free gift then again great mag. Suppliments ok but you cant beat somthing useful like the sharpie. My old ones a bit blunt so this is a good replacement. Keep up the good work GM.

andycap
email or PM me your home address and I will send you a sharpie. They are inserted by machine so inevitably the occasional one misses on the production line

Think the Sharpie was a great free gift, useful to just about everyone. Items like that, pitch mark repairers, ball markers, anything like that which is of practical use is a far better idea to me than a supplement.

Thought the sharpie was a great idea. I use them already but no harm in having another.

The DVD was very good also, particularly the etiquette section which I really liked.

As for future freebies, Totally agree on the Pitchmark repairer, Ideal with GM branding also as it shows GM setting an example to those plebs who dont bother.

Sharpie is a great idea, as i use a pen, but would be happy to see how long this mark lasts on the ball.

Will be resting in the garden this afternoon to get some reading done, looking forward to seeing which shoes I will be pining for after the read :)

The marks last for a long time mate.

I use the proV1 and titlist spin-milled wedges. I give a ball a bloody good hiding during a round, usually cutting up after 3/4 holes and yet even if I go a whole round without losing a ball, the mark is still there unless I have taken the cover off.

Sharpie was a great idea and a great gift.....so much so that some thieving sod's have nicked most of the one's on the mags in my local Tesco's !!! Luckily i found one at the back still intact :)

again, sharpie a good idea - will get more to buy the mag and then repeat purchasing will follow im sure. Ill never watch the dvd though lol. Ball markers, tees etc. for freebies are always winners for me.

Yes like the sharpie, good idea and very useful.
The DVD is very informative too, especially for somebody just starting out.
I'd like to see more DVD's on training tips etc. I remember a few years ago, receiving one in a golf mag about hitting an iron from - 150-170yds to the green - great to be able to refer to every now and then.

By the way, thanks Mike!
