Trying to gauge opinion on this and I appreciate there will be many however I feel the following formats are what we should be looking at so would appreciate votes on the poll.

** and yes, i realise Preferred is spelled wrong :D

Maybe to negate the medal vs stableford arguing, what about both.

Nett medal score less your stableford points.

e.g. nett 74 - minus 36 stableford points = 38 is your score.

Most clubs have one of these comps a year, so best of both worlds.

Just based on par or CSS, not as complicated as our Castle Stuart trip.;)

36 hole stableford with handicap and scratch prizes or cat 1, 2, 3+4 prizes, playing 36 medal would take too long and may have to limit the numbers

dont see the need to play scratch as medal and h`cap as stableford

Fatal mistake Val,

You should have blocker Peter from posting on this thread :D

Maybe put the scratch comp as optional, and have the stableford as the main comp.
saves both the embarrassment of the cricket scores on tough courses, and also a fair bit of time.

Said as a true high handicapper....

As much as I like to play them, I don't see any mileage in a scratch comp. There'll be lots of complaining if it's compulsory and hardly any entries if it isn't.

I voted plain stableford. Let's all go hack it about for a couple of days, have a laugh, and pick up when we can't score.

Its only a bit of fun. stableford and be done with it. big field medal on a tough course puts everyone in for a long day.

I agree with this. I think it would attract more players also.

dont see why it matters if there is a scratch element to it. either you enter it or you don't. it will make very little difference whether its medal or scratch to the people that would most likely enter it anyway, so wouldnt be any slower.

Pretty close to your option #1

36 Hole medal with a handicap champion and a scratch champion

OK many will see they have no chance in the scratch category but I think there should still be one even if it is nominal only with any entrance money / sweep etc being awarded entirely to the handicap places.

I wouldn't be interested in travelling all the way up from the south coast for a stableford if I'm honest.

Stableford is a rubbish format IMHO. Having a competition where you can score 22 on a hole and still come out a winner is a floored approach. Handicapping should be sufficient.

I'm a high h/c by the way :)

I would hope in a stableford you would have picked up before you had a 22.

Stableford for me. 4 hour drive, start with a 10, and another 35 holes to go.:( Would be happy with 36 holes over two days, but not in a day.

Not too bothered to be honest. But I know this is just to get an idea of what people want to do.
I would rather Val make an executive decision and if people do not like it....... tough. :)

I think it has to be Stableford, we learned from the first KoK day at Hillside didn't we that large group + mixed abilities + unfamiliar championship course + medal format isn't a good mix.

I can see where people are coming from with the preference for medal, it's a better test, but I would have thought that the 36 hole format will still give some advantage to lower handicappers.

If all handicaps are welcome then I think that it has to be Stableford, a good compromise is to have 2 prizes one scratch and one handicap. Same format as HFH I believe but over 36 holes.

Personally for a strokeplay scratch comp to work best you would need to limit the handicap IMHO. Maybe leave that for another time.
