Hi all

Up until the last 2 weeks I've been playing some (for me) good stuff.... playing well below my handicap, however, over the last 2 weeks I've been in awful form.

Tomorrow I'm off to Oxford for the Cleveland/Srixon fitting...... and (although I'm sure I'll be fine) I've got a niggling feeling that I could make an absolute numpty of myself.

Has anyone else been for a fitting/club testing and done the same?

i played possibly the worst golf ever when i got fitted for mine (ok, no jokes that its the same as now please!) the TM fitter said well If you can hit like that and they are your terrible shots, they should be fine. Seriously when i started my fitting, i couldnt keep drives on the range, shanks, hooks, slices. I did worry for the camera mans life at one point! think i got too excited and nervous, main thing i would suggest is "try"and relax.... easier said than done!!

They must see nervous golfers all the time, people trying too hard, swinging too quickly, etc.

Even if you are striping it, they will have seen better.

They can only fit you for the swing you bring on the day, so try to relax, and let it come out!

I didn't exactly light it up at mine either. Its hard to hit your best stuff when you are so tense. The more I tried the worse it got

Since ive got it home though its been a different story.

Don't worry about it, you will be fine. Don't try too hard though

Just enjoy the experience - don't worry about how you hit it. Last week, we all hit some shockers, but the photographer is light on his feet;) and the good ones were enough to get a decent fitting. As Murph said, they will all have seem much better and much worse, so don't sweat it and swing free :)

My drives were all over the show at the TM fitting... but then my drives are all over the show in normal play. So whilst it wasn't quite the masterclass I was hoping, it was fairly representative of the fact I'm pretty crap off the tee.

My advice would be (a) relax, and (b) try to maintain your typical tempo.

And enjoy yourself!!!

I heard about a tip for situations just like this... all you need to do is picture the GM team in their underwear!

And with that thought now sure to pop into your head at some point on the day I hope you can still enjoy it :D

Mine went ok thankfully but i asked for & got good advice from Steve (swinger) as i was nervous going ..

My advice to you would be to warm up properly , relax and swing like you normally would , dont try to have a swing you think you should have or a swing you think will look better , the fitter wont care , he has seen all levels of golfer good & bad and he will work with what you have to give you the best for you ..
Be honest in your assesment of your shots with the fitter , and you will be fine ,

What you will find is the fitter will put you totaly at ease , if you are not sure of something stop and ask him to explain it to you , dont try take in all the figures , if you want a record of them either write them down or ask him for them ,
if you try remember them you will get a mental block .

I know its not a proper answer to your question , but its a great experience and you will enjoy every second

thanks for all the advice guys....the short of it seems to be to take a breath and try and be "normal"......cant blooming wait!!

I hadn't picked up a club for a few weeks before my iron fitting.
Went to the range the day before and was absolutely terrible haha, thought there was no point in even going to the fitting.
Still went and by some miracle I was hitting my irons probably the nicest I've ever hit them.
He left me on my own at the start to go get his jacket so I had a few poor warm up shots, but after that I just forgot I was being watched and just enjoyed hitting the different clubs and It was fine.
You can have good convo's as well with the fitter because of their wide knowledge so helps you feel more relaxed.

I was lucky enough to go for a Clothing fitting, but I looked fat on the day (and most of the days before and after it TBH).. Is that the same thing?:D

Went to Orka for a driver fitting, hit it so bad even after well over an hour. Alex would not sell me a club even though he just about worked out what would help... he pretty much said "go get a lesson with your driver". I kind of tried to explain that it was usually a club I could hit but I just made a mess and walked away glad I had not bought a driver based on that session.

I was embarrassed but who cares, I know what am and am not. Lucky that the fitter was not looking to cash in.

I went into the TM day after loads of range time and a few rounds so felt my swing was decent (for me at least), I hit enough decent shots for them to sort me out. I hit some shocking drives though and he really did have to bring out every shaft going. On the course was even worse, havent hit so many fat in my life, thankfully I got better as we were finishing.

I wouldnt be too nervous, yes be excited but just enjoy it, take it all in and I am sure you'll have a great time.

Never been on a GM one but I have been OK when it matters at a normal fitting. Strangely I could not hit a 6 iron for love nor money when I was having a warm up prior to a fitting but once I had the first test club in my hands it all went fine.

I always try to remember that the fitter is there to help you find the right club and not to judge your ability or your swing.

I went for a mizuno DNA fitting a couple of years ago, whilst it felt like i was hitting it really well with the swing analyser club, when we looked at the numbers they weren't very consistent and swing speed showed i was trying to rip the skin off the ball every shot. Once out on the range i thought i was still hitting it ok but the ball was going really high and changing the shaft wasn't lowering it. The pro filmed a couple of shots and pointed out my very unattractive flip and suggested a lesson rather than buying new clubs.

I had a Titleist driver fitting at Celtic Manor a couple of years ago and turned up with somebody else's swing. After an hour the fitter said it would be best if I came back in a week or so. My swing was just awful that day and nothing I hit seemed to go properly. Went back a couple of weeks later and everything was fine. At least they didn't try to fob me off with any old shaft and I only had to pay for the one fitting, which was waived anyway as I bought the club.

I've only had a brief flirt with custom fitting, when I was working out shaft spec and lie angles with a pro in an indoor range.

Shaft spec was right on the line between regular and stiff, so no great help there. We then used a strikemat for lie, and he gave me three clubs, 1 deg flat, normal, 1 deg upright. I managed to mark the tape in exactly the same place on each club. Twice.

He was a little perplexed to say the least!

My GM experiences have all been positive. Had a few shanks when I went to my fitting last year. The bloke laughed and I soon relaxed especially when he recounted a tale of a famous celebrity actually letting go of the club as he hit it.
