I know it's not as exciting as equipment but are there any forum users who there who are avid readers of golf books be they biographies or autobiographies of players, instruction books, history or fiction?

We get a lot of books sent in to GM towers and Luke struggles to read all of them so it would be great to be able to send them out to a good home to be read and reviewed in the mag and online?

Drop me a line (michael_harris@ipcmedia.com) if you're interested

cheers

MikeH

Mike, would be very interested, will read anything about golf, have read Faldo's, Tiger's, Big J Daly's autobiographies, most of Bob Rotellas books, Dave Pelz'z putting bible and short game bible to name a few, (even most of the rule book from front to back). Just finished bring me the head of Sergio Garcia last night, some very funny laugh out loud parts but didn't think it was as good as I had hoped it would be.

I must confess to being a bit of a golf reader. It all started with Nicklaus' 'Total Golf Techniques' and went on from there. I try to avoid too many, but certain titles just grab you. Mark James' account of Brookline '99 being one obvious example.

Just bought Watson's 'How to save shots from 40 yards' and looking forward to learning some new approaches to such a valuable area.

Now I really must go to bed...

So, yes Mike, in the absence of getting to test any equipment, I will cheerfully test some reading material for you and Luke!

Yes please I have a two hour commute every day so go through several books a month.

Best golfing book ive ever read was Bring me the head of Sergio Garcia. Surprised Birdie has not read it, we all now how much he loves him!

I've sent you a message Mike.

I go through tons of books. I have to read for at least an hour every night, I can't get to sleep otherwise!

Interested too Mike.

Reading instructional books mainly at the moment as I'm a relative newcomer to the game. I wouldn't mind having a gander at the "Bring me the head of Sergio Garcia" or the Dave Pelz Putting bible. Would be very happy with anything though.

An excellent idea Mike, perhaps they could be recirculated when we've done with them, it doesn't cost much to post on a book.

I love autobiography's because I am a nosey bugger. I found Monty's all about him justifying to us why he can be such a knob, however the most nauseating read last year was Darren Clarkes 'Hero's All'. I found it too Americanised and so insincere that I was screaming at it.

I would read an Auto but nothing to do with instruction.

If you want to read a book that's "all about me" try Tony Jacklin my autobiography, its awful in parts with him just self concratulating himself in text. However the end is very touching but still does not make up for the other 2/3, would give it 4/10.

Read Monty's and Seve's autobiographies over Xmas and found Monty's much better, honest and revealing.

Seve's didn't tell me much about the man and I was left disappointed. Didn't even read it all, I was so bored with it. Sad, because he's a golfing god.

Incidentally, I thought autobiographies were meant to be "all about me"

I would happily flush "Bring me the head of Sergio Garcia" down the pan. Written in an endlessly turgid style by a rather average "wannabe" club golfer with ideas above his station and no concept about the true meaning of the game. Frankly, it just made me angry and I very quickly realised it was just done as a journalistic project to make some dosh, rather than a true account of an aspiring pro's account of life on tour. Sad to say I finished it ony beacuse it had been so highly recommended. I'll know better next time.

Doh !!!!!!!!!!!

There are autobiography's that give insight in to the person and those that are just text that leads you up their own arses.

Darren Clarkes did have to deal with a tragedy but his book would make even the most sympathetic person barf all over their Lyle and Scott
